The sole license for a medical marijuana pharmacy in the greater Baton Rouge region has been awarded to a local firm to dispense the drug at a site in the Baton Rouge Health District.
The Louisiana Board of Pharmacy on Tuesday voted unanimously to award the license to Capitol Wellness Solutions, which beat out the only remaining applicant, Green Magnolia Rx. Capitol Wellness Solutions was ranked first in the region by the board's selection committee.
Capitol Wellness is run by Randy Mire, a pharmacist who has owned Gem Drugs, which has two locations in Reserve and Gramercy, for the past decade. Mire's team includes TJ Woodard, who owns and operates Prescriptions to Geaux in downtown Baton Rouge, and former Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie, who will serve as head of security.
"It's been an extremely long process to make sure we fit everything the board is looking for," Mire said after the decision.

Mire said he has been eyeing a medical marijuana pharmacy since state legislation began picking up steam five years ago. Capitol Wellness has a lease on a 4,300-square-foot space at 7941 Picardy Ave. for its marijuana pharmacy. Mire did not immediately offer a timeline for opening, but said he will work with the LSU AgCenter to see when the plant will be available.

The pharmacy board on Tuesday also awarded regional licenses for New Orleans, Lafayette, Houma and Lake Charles. Licensing continues Wednesday for the north shore, Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria.
SIAP
This licensing process reminds me of how Louisiana handled riverboat gaming in the 1990s. Why are they only issuing one for each region?

You really have to ask?

In the case of New Orleans, board member Allen Cassidy said the board felt that H&W, fourth-ranked by the selection committee, was the "most qualified" applicant after reviewing its application and hearing testimony. He added the board members that voted to award the licenses did not include the members of the selection committee, which had not heard the additional testimony that came in March and at Tuesday's hearings.
I'd bet that at least one indictment will come out of this.

This government is nothing but a state sanctioned mafia.

How do you properly say that something or somewhere is incapable of evolving?

Everything about this law is arse backwards in true LA fashion.
There will be ten total in the state eventually if they can get that many pharmacies that are actually interested. The law passed by our brilliant legislature states that it’s only medicinal but it can’t be any smokable form of medicinal marijuana. Add in the fact that the diagnoses that are covered under the state law need to be expanded to include PTSD and other obvious missing diagnoses.
The amount of collateral a marijuana pharmacy had to provide to the state was astronomical considering the likelihood of not seeing profit for years to come based on several factors such as only being able to purchase marijuana products from one distributor chosen by the state with no price control, inability of patient insurance to cover any part of the cost of the prescription and very limited patient pool based on the covered diagnoses.
I could go on and on about why this won’t work here but just imagine the Louisiana legislature and how they can frick up a wet dream and well you get the point.

Full legalization in Louisiana would be a much bigger tourism boost than casino gaming ever was.
But we have to do it before Texas, Mississippi, and Arkansas.

This whole scheme is bullshite. What a waste of time, effort and money when we are going to legalize in 5 years. All this crap will be for naught.

Chronic Pain and PTSD passed the house and are now in the Senate committee. That bill also allows vaping. A buddy of mine is a big time cannibus lobbyist so he’s been keeping me updated.

Knowing Louisiana they will still get raided, even with no charges filed.

I love how the state only allows the sale of only the dangerous mode of ingestion of weed
