State regulators on Monday (Sept. 17) got rid of a rule that limited the number of patients Louisiana doctors can recommend medical marijuana to.

The Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners met Monday to consider changing several rules that currently place restrictions on patient access to medical marijuana. That included a patient limit rule that prevented Louisiana doctors licensed under the state's medical marijuana program from recommending the drug to more than 100 people at a time.

In addition to lifting the patient cap, the board agreed to remove a restriction that would have required patients to see their doctor every 90 days in order to renew their order for medical cannabis.

Dr. Victor Chou, one of the first doctors in Louisiana to receive a license to recommend medical marijuana, told the board he met the patient cap just two weeks after opening his clinic in Baton Rouge.

"I have a waiting list of 700 patients," he said.

Knowing the sheriff/DA's association they will probably get a nice kickback for passing along a nice list of every licensee to the DEA.

You know Louisiana politicians just HAVE to set it up so their buddies get to grow it all, then their other buddies get to sell it all, then their other buddies get to prescribe it.

It's a joke. Typical Louisiana politics, got to hook your padnah's up so they make the money, the rest of the state be damned. Good. Ole. Boy.

You are correct. In North Louisiana the drug dealer is businessman Bill Windham who is connected politically. It's an odd move for him because in the past he had always been more a cocaine imbibing kind of guy.

Louisiana is rotten to the core.

The fact that governments at every level have denied access to a plant that may have medicinal benefits, as well as hindered research into said benefits, is nothing short of criminal and grounds for dissolution for breach of social contract.

As if weed was difficult to obtain to begin with. A goddam suburban soccer mom can get weed if she wants.

Besides, health outcomes have improved in the country either way.

It wasnt justified the way marijuana was handled but it's stupid to think it's some heinous crime.

It’s already setting up like this.

Senator Fred Mills has been pushing for medical marijuana for YEARS now. He has introduced legislation year after year. Fred Mills is also a pharmacist & banker. If you recall, one of the biggest problems Colorado experienced when they legalized was banking. Fred Mills is also President/CEO of Farmers Merchant Bank & Trust, one of only 3 banks that have agreed to take money from medical marijuana providers.

Coincidence? I think not.

You're absolutely correct. Meth, heroine, their substitutes, and weed substitutes are deadly and addictive. We need weed legalized quickly because 1) healthier than a lot of unhealthy shite, 2) medicinal purposes, and 3) screw you.

Small banks are going to be the only ones who takes those types of risks. Big banks and credit unions aren’t going to do it.

I've always told people for years that Louisiana will never allow weed in any form until the politicians figure a way to get family & friends paid!
Think I may be right on this one.

So an employer drug tests for MJ, it shows up in system, you provide your MJ card to the lab and all's good?

Still illegal federally.

Also, illegal to have a lot of drugs in your system. Legal or not.
