Well it’s true.

It might be true. I don't know the rate of transmission of COVID from different species. Do you?

I just laugh because the phrase "animal reservoir" was never said on the OT/PT in 18 months, and then that one doc goes viral and its now the hottest new talking point.

I can imagine however it does seem like it would be important to know. Folks can easily be tested for this and it be attached to their medical file.

From someone that has the same questions as you; how would they actually test this? Look for antibodies for everyone that came in the hospital? But, that would only represent a small number, and you would then require everyone to submit to a test (blood sample) every time they get tested?

Also, how does this factor in the people who had COVID, then developed antibodies, and now the antibody levels are too low to reliably be measured. I am about to fall into this category, had COVID before tests were developed (assumption based on illness in Feb '20, multiple negative tests leading up to blood donation in July '20, and showing antibodies from that donation & 5 donations since) and since tests were developed tested negative 7 times (0 positives).

Actually Jeff Asher probably knows somebody with access to Ochsner's predictive model. He is a total hack.

I have heard that there is something called a T Cell test that can also be done.

Maybe one of the medical guys in this thread could expound on T Cells.

How is he a hack? I think he has been pretty evenhanded throughout.

There will never be a downslope and there will never be a reduction in cases sufficient enough to back Queen and Avegno off of their mask and vaccination proof power trip. Never. This is our new normal in Orleans Parish (I hate that fricking phrase).

After all, it's about safety right? I can see the future. We know that the cases are substantially down, that hospitalizations, infections, and deaths are substantially down. But we can't let our guard down!

The masks will prevent another wave that is inevitable, so for now, let's just mask up NOLA forever and protect our kids, friends and neighbors!!

But this “vaccine” doesn’t stop someone from getting or spreading it, it is only a symptom reducer. Plus COVID-19 has an animal reservoir.

Given these facts, your above statement doesn’t hold any water.

You have no idea how a vaccine works, do you?

Honestly I thought a vaccine would be better than just not getting really sick but just a little sick.

Do people get a little bit of measles but just not to bad if vaccinated? Honestly curious.

The vast majority of vaccinated people that test positive have zero symptoms.

I slept next to my vaccinated wife the entire time I had COVID. She never had a single symptom despite almost assuredly contracting the virus from me.

Interesting you bring up measles. I was just looking into this last night. Apparently, measles does not mutate as easily as Covid or influenza, and the vaccines were able to bring us to herd immunity even though it is MUCH more contagious than covid19. Interesting right?

hopefully there's some cross of contagiousness and potential mutations there in our favor as humanity, that indicate, we could possibly get this under control. Before I read about measles last night, I was convinced this was going to be around forever no matter what we do; but I hit someone with the argument that covid is more contagious than influenza and we couldn't stop it, so what makes you think covid will ever be controlled, and they were like what about measles; so I was like shite, a hole in my argument, and did some research. That's also why the mutation explanation is fresh in my mind, although I did learn about the randomness of mutations in good ole biology at LSU.

There is no way to know how many vaccinated people get exposed to covid and show zero symptoms

There is also no way to know how many people get exposed to measles, mumps, etc and show slight symptoms. You just would shake that off as feeling poor. You aren’t going to go get tested for those for slightly feeling off

I'm vaccinated and currently positive. Feels like a summer cold. And a mild one at that. Glad I took the vaccine. I haven't had any close friends or relatives hospitalized from the virus but know several that got their arse kicked for two weeks.

You are confusing contagiousness with ability to mutate.

The problem with influenza is that it has H and N particles on its surface that can rearrange in a million different patterns vary easily and essentially create a brand new virus. Think H1N1 or H8N3 that’s describing the arrangement on the surface like a combination lock. Not everyone is going to have immunity against every combination.

What is more promising with Covid is that it has one key protein… the spike protein. We have antibodies to that. Sure the spike protein can mutate to get away from our antibodies but at some point if it mutated too much it would lose its ability to infect us.

Contagiousness and ability to mutate are two different concepts

This state is a joke. Starts at the governor’s mansion and runs all the way down. There are at least a few big businesses in this state right now that are run by clowns.

I love the thought process behind mandated vaccines. “You didn’t get the vaccine so it’s your fault I got this virus the all-powerful vaccine didn’t stop me from getting.”

Absolute clown world.

I know it’s anecdotal but I know more than a handful of fully vaccinated people that had moderate Covid symptoms. Definitely not enough to be hospitalized but they definitely had the coughing/sneezing symptoms.

My understanding is that those people spread the virus and not asymptomatic people.

My wife had covid in November. I slept next to her the whole time and even had a 7 hour car ride together and I never tested positive. Not sure what to make of that
