Nice. Have any of them suffered from micro-aggressions or been shot by the police for no reason?

Don't fall for it. It's another trick from the White Man! He wants to eradicate your culture. Rise up!

When the gulf to Morganza levee was designed it put them on the outside .... That land has been sinking and eroding for years

All federal funds, right? No state funds?

The police don't go down the island road... Even the Point aux Chene natives avoid the island

First off "Indian" tribe probably needs to be used pretty loosely. I'm not aware of Isle de Jean Charles being some reservation or organized thing. Just a cheap piece of land that people with some Indian ancestry happen to live on currently. I mean I guess that's semantics, but I've never viewed it as "Indian territory" or anything. Second, if they are selling all of that land, I'm pretty sure it could be picked up for under a million. It is one of the poorest, shittiest, backwoods, cousin-fricking-esque, places I can think of. Good fishing though.
My grandpa had a camp in the marsh that we would launch from there when I was younger. Louisiana has pumped a lot of money already into improving the roads that get to this island. I'd hate to see the amount of public funds required to keep the ~20 people that live there happy.
And I wouldn't say rising sea levels have done much of anything there. It's erosion. The amount of marsh that's been wiped out since I was a kid is impressive. And to hear stories from my mom when they used to go to the camp as kids and what used to be marsh is now open water is scary. Erosion from hurricanes is easily the reasoning for all of this.

But but that doesn't make me feel guilty and want to buy carbon offset credits...

I just did the Google Earth street view. Some people on that road are keeping up their property and some are lazy pigs that can't even bother to pick up the trash in their own front yard. Some poor somebody is going to get trash for a new neighbor.

you dumb frick...
it's not the rising sea levels there but the sinking and eroding land.
Once you learn the facts, you'll see who the real dumb frick is.

$52 million is just about enough to get a casino off the ground, yeah?

I wore this frock coat in Washington, before the war. We wore them because we belonged to the Five Civilized Tribes. We dressed ourself up like Barack Obama. You know, we got to see the Secretary of the Interior. He said, “Boy! You boys sure look civilized!” He congratulated us, and he gave us medals for looking so civilized. We told him about how our land was eroding. Our people were dying. When we finished, he shook our hands and said, “Endeavor to persevere.” They stood us in a line–John Jumper, Junior McIntosh, Buffalo Hump, Jim Pockmark, and me. I’m Lone Watie. They took our pictures, and the newspapers said, “Indians Vow to Endeavor to Persevere.” We thought about it for a long time. “Endeavor to persevere”. And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union.

Is there no land up in like North Dakota or Oklahoma still available?
And I don't think property values were all that high to begin with.

They have a sign up saying HUD housing is going to be built didn't realize it was for the Island buyout. If anyone is to blame for their land loss it is those responsible for controlling the MS river and cutting off most of Terrebonne/Lafourche parishes from fresh water and sediment.

This.
No group in this country has been able to manipulate, donate, and take advantage of the government and taxpayers of this country like the Native Americans.
Yet, in spite of all this, Indians live in poverty and alcoholism.
