Turning off your water and water heater is cheap piece of mind if a freeze concerns you.

Models are starting to pull back on the snow already. Maybe some sleet and ice pellets. Still a long ways out.

GFS backed off and went back to the Arkansas/Northern Louisiana winter storm I was talking about on page 1. Plenty of time to go.

Just don't forget to drain your pipes as well...

The current look on the GFS for around Feb. 12 is a rough look. It would likely be a significant ice storm for northern Lousiana, and much of Mississippi and Alabama. Along with some snow behind the ice for northern MS and northern AL. It will likely continue to change, though, so we shall see.

Placing my bets this turns into more of an event for Ga, Bama, N Fla.
Seems these things always trend further easy that initial model runs show

12z GFS has shifted the system further to the north. Would be an ice event for Arkansas, NW Mississippi and Tennessee.
But this thing will continue to change so there is no reason to get caught up in every individual model run. (I'm partially talking to myself, here).

GFS Ensembles still paint the possibilities here.

I don’t pay attention to winter models. What is most respected models in terms of winter weather?

Thats what I plan on doing, but Im wondering if I should keep my pool pump running the entire time and turn my main water to the house off and drain the lines

Global models such as the GFS and Euro are still considered the best for overall pattern recognition.
With that said, once we're within 3-4 days of a winter event, the NAM, which goes out 84 hours is better at temperature profiles, which translates to determining winter precip chances. Otherwise, the HRRR and RAP models are run hourly out to 24 hour. They will obviously produce more detailed results for exact locations with winter precip

You haven't lived the New Orleans life until you've helped a friend replace busted elbows and split pipes below his classic raised Victorian uptown near Audubon Park.

Adding to the prior images for the 12z Euro model. Freezing rain totals would not be a pretty sight.

If Baton Rouge gets anywhere close to that amount of FREEZING RAIN we will be out of power for two weeks.

Latest EURO numbers:
Friday 2/12 at Noon
Saturday 2/13 at 6:00am
Saturday 2/13 at Noon
Sunday 2/14 at 6:00am
This is King EURO, baws. The EURO and GFS both agree on something significant happening at this point.
