Y'all don't have snow under the ice? We have about 3" of ice and under it is about 6" of snow

you about break your ankle when you fall through the ice because the snow is still soft and powdery

Once worked 10 hours for Sonny throwing hay. Me and my buddy and a team of Mexicans that had zero intention of working that day. Sonny paid us like 20 bucks each. Even in 85 that was a bad days pay.

in Alexandria... we finally busted our streak of 32 or colder this morning at 5.5 days

now sitting at 34 degrees

I can hear the water flowing down the gutters like it's a torrential downpour outside... yet it's bright blue skies with some random fair weather clouds and sunshine

-3 degrees currently. When I woke up this morning it was 6 degrees and my front door was wide open (appears it blew up during the night) Nice fire going now, sun coming up over the mountains, and the first day of baseball season.

One good thing to come out of this weather event is it cured me of ever wanting to live in the mountains in the wintertime.

I am hoping for a few days of minus degree weather so the lake will freeze. It really opens things up here for the snowmachines.

It's not exactly apples to apples. In places like that they're prepared and have plows, can treat the roads, have heated sidewalks, vehicles equipped and prepared for winter weather, etc.

I'd love to be somewhere like this where they can handle it.

I actually am somewhere they handle it well for the next few months. All the county roads get plowed by morning when we get snow. Don't have to worry about pipes. It's really not bad at all, frick the worst part of it is how fricking dry the air is.

I would love to live in Montana or Idaho year round..... but things are different out there... the houses are made different... and the summers are great... what you do is make sure you have a house filling type generator and by a shitload of water and go to town and get all the supplies you need for a week and then just hunker down and keep the fireplace going.....

What’s the status of the interstate in Shreveport. We are trying to get back to CENLA and may have to drive from DFW.

Mighty want to wait another day on that I-20 run.

quote:

Hundreds of commuters along a stretch of Interstate 20 were stuck, like Robert McCasland, a man who has been stranded since 4 p.m. Thursday, unable to move or get to an exit to get off the highway.

He said he was attempting to get to Longview to see his kids since he works out of town.
Dawn Peterson and her two kids are moving from Colorado to south Louisiana. They were halfway through their journey when she said traffic stopped moving. More than 14 hours later, they were able to get to a rest stop in Longview.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, I-20 reopened in both directions Friday at 5 a.m., but traffic is still very slow-moving and first responders are having to wake sleeping motorists in their vehicles to start moving again.

KALB said power was almost fully restored at the water wells this morning

We've above 32 at the Monroe Airport for the first time since 5 pm Saturday the 13th.

Right at 140 hours below 32. That has to be close to a record.

I never knew how exciting it could be to drive 2 miles to a gas station and actually buy stuff

So liberating

Eta - except water and milk. Those are unseen commodities
