current cloud cover, anyone who doesn't get any sunshine won't get above freezing and have much less melting

What are the winds like? A decent wind along with the sun would help dry roads, and keep them from refreezing tonight.

You can see where the ice accumulated on this map. From Morgan City all the way northeast through Mississippi and into Alabama.

Very cool!

Have we EVER had a thread of severe weather when the temperature was 36?

My forecast for Wednesday night.

What you're talking about northeast of Morgan City isn't ice.. those are clouds. The ice and the snow on that satellite is the white stuff not moving from up the Mississippi River to everything to the west of there.

Still wrapping my head around this record breaking cold air outbreak across the midsection of the US. For many this is the coldest outbreak in 30+ years!

Here are a few record lows from last night overlaid on top of @burgwx's RTMA analysis from earlier this morning.

I have never seen snow in North AL depicted on radar like what we are getting right now. It has to be legit lake/river effect snow. You can barely see it on Precip. Depiction. Hi res shows very little to nothing. Composite shows a ball of color, but has very limited radar coverage. Never seen it like this.

I'm glad that he got a good job with NWS. He's damn good at what he does, and is proving he's not just a tropical/hurricane guy.

Are you in Houma? Because Houma will definitely be above freezing tomorrow.
