You still have power? many outages in your area?

hydrometer classification doesn't have a good range to it due to the angle of the radar, it may show snow but the area it is looking at in the atmosphere is well above the ground in which that snow it sees is actually melting before it hits the ground
needless to say the closer you get to the radar location the more accurate it is

Snows been steady all day but it’s really come down now with big snowflakes.

Do any of you guys know exactly what they upgraded the KDFW radar to? It was down for roughly 2 weeks. Just curious.

Neighborhood still has power for now. Some small clusters of outages here and there around Georgetown/Round Rock that haven’t lasted long, from what I’m told. I think my biggest concern is the trees that continue to come down from the weight of the ice.

We have gumbo bagged and frozen along with chili, shrimp and corn soup and veggie beef soup. Even though we have a generator for the house, I have it set up outside to be able re heat these over a wood fire
I have enough fuel for my generator for 48 straight hours but will use it sparingly.
Currently headed to town for a handle of Crown and Bloody Mary fixings

CC and ZDR is more useful, especially when this gets to Louisiana and there are tight lines of different p-types.
CC will show up the melting level and suggest when you have sleet by the lower CC values. ZDR can differentiate rain vs snow because snow has a more symmetrical shape than raindrops that are fatter than they are tall. Put it together, and you can pull a more accurate picture than hydrometer classification.

I couldn't believe it. He banged a damn frozen banana against a frozen bottle of water. He just got through telling everyone it was 1°. We get it. It is damn cold.

Wow, that is entertaining and informative.

I also believed him ahead of time, didn't need the demo

Freezing clothes or food in -20 or colder is the only acceptable way to use inanimate objects to show it's cold.
The hot water cloud trick is also acceptable.

The guy on 60 minutes Australia went to the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth.
While there, he used a frozen banana to hammer a nail into a log. Sadly, displaying my immaturity,
I was impressed.
