If I remember right from the freeze we had a few years back, DOTD tried to keep the old bridge open since the interstate was basically shut down. My memory might be off though

I know they dedicate all resources to the old bridge because they don't have enough machines to keep the HWB open and still service ebr roads.

I just need to run across for 30 minutes or so to get the wife and then head home

In 2014 they tried to keep I-10 bridge open but stopped trying when they had trucks sliding back down.

Latest GFS for tomorrow night. The previous run had BR at 12 so it’s slightly colder this run.

Compared to the Jan 2018 ice storm , this ice storm has the potential to be much worse. That storm had the interstate shut down- a good reference point on what to expect here

It's worth the risk. You can't make gumbo without sausage.

No idea, but I'd imagine the "new" bridge is gonna be the priority for DOTD. That old bridge is a little nerve-wracking on a regular day--can't imagine crossing that thing in the middle of an ice/snow storm at 3AM.

I'd probably see if the hotels around BTR airport had any available rooms and spend the night on this side of the river.

I drive around Gonzales Prairieville and Baton Rouge for my job. I’d imagine I should get a call from my boss saying not to come in tomorrow.

That’s the main reason they close down the new bridge. Ice builds up on the structure above the roadway, and the vibration of the vehicles causes it the break off, and fall. Can’t take the chance of a chunk of ice going through the windshield of a vehicle.

All I know is that in all of my life I have never heard a local weather guy say "Accretion". Never. I, personally, blame whoever gave the winter weather guy at The Weather Channel the word-a-day calendar for Christmas this year.

You know what else was open in 2014 during the storm? Cal’s butthole after JOB-III went in dry

I work in Port Allen and I don’t want to get stuck on the bridge sliding or getting stuck in Port Allen if they shut the bridge down. So far me and my coworkers haven’t been notified about work tomorrow.
