NOLA should be fine but the freeze line has made a fool of the models this entire time so you just never know. Neither to the experts

What are my chances of losing power in Ruston? Does it happen often during snow/ice?

I actually didn't cheer on this storm, but I wasn't gonna sit by while DickkVD attacked others for no reason.

We haven't seen an official threat of an arse whipping yet.

Friday afternoon update:

Models have backed off on the major ice storm event in the Baton Rouge area but areas from Lafayette to Lake Charles northward need to be on the look out for a major event.

Baton Rouge, according to the GFS and EURO, will be on the edge of the ice event as of this morning. Temps will hover close to freezing while the precip moves in but it moves out fast before the freezing line moves well south of the area. Of course, there will likely still be some icing but it may not be nearly as much as previously indicated.

There are some models that still indicate quite the icing event in Baton Rouge, though, so it still needs to be watched closely - especially since many areas in Texas and north Louisiana fell below freezing yesterday long before they were forecast to. If that shallow arctic air, which is difficult for the models to get a handle on, continues to advance faster than forecast then Baton Rouge could still have a mess on its hands.

Bottom Line for the Baton Rouge Area -- It's going to be very close. The difference between no freezing rain at all and up to a half-inch of freezing rain will be a matter of 10 miles or less and the line could be very close to the city. It's not as much of a sure thing as it was before yesterday but it's still a very good possibility.

Another thing to to consider that I saw was brought up by Zack Fradella over on stormcast is this -- Even if your area doesn't receive freezing rain, the freeze line will follow very, very quickly after the rain moves out of your area. This means that all the surfaces will not have nearly the amount of time required to dry before freezing so your roads and surfaces will still ice over pretty rapidly after the moisture moves out.

Not during snow. If you get enough ice, trees and limbs will come down and take out power lines. Won't know if/when/where until it starts falling.

I live just down the road in Arcadia. Given the amount of rain/freezing rain coming Wednesday, you need to be ready to be without for an extended period.

Just snowed tiny flakes our entire tennis drill but too small to stick. Trying to decide if I have to drive to Lakehouse today and wrap pipes and shut off water or if it can wait until tomorrow. If I go today if will probably spend the night. Almost entire way is on elevated highways.

While the roads would suck, this scenario would at least keep the lights on.

A lot of people are going to be forced to drive into work on Monday and Tuesday and many of them will be placed in dangerous situations on the roads. Every employer needs to let their employees work from home Monday and Tuesday.

You do realize that most people can't work from home, right?

It’s such a strange line in the sand for old balls mgmt. it’s always divorced dude or someone with no kids, flexing that he is in the office while people scramble to figure out what to do.

Even when you are in the office people do jack shite but talk about the snow. It’s retarded

What are the odds I get stuck there if I drive down today? Are we looking at more frozen precipitation in DFW over the next 24 hours?

Fact. Completely pointless unless in essential retail/medical or something.

Big change in the EURO freezing rain projection.
