Wonder if this is at any way connected to the higher population of African Americans, 32.4% as opposed to 13.1% of the nation.
When is America going to realize that it's a poverty thing much more than a race thing?
True, most of the people living in poverty in Louisiana are African American.

people are moving here for employment? You mean Louisiana?
Absolutely. They're having to build huge housing complexes on barges just to house all of the new workers on the Sasol project in Lake Charles. We haven't seen a petrochemical/refining boom like this since the 70s. Offshore oil/gas is booming, onshore is about to boom in Central LA and in the North Shore. The medical sector is about to open in New Orleans. The tech industry is booming down there. IBM is building a huge office in BR. As they say, business is a-boomin'.

It doesn't seem correlated with race:
"The five states with the highest per capita gun death rates in 2011 were Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana. Each of these states has extremely lax gun violence prevention laws as well as a higher rate of gun ownership. The state with the lowest gun death rate in the nation was Rhode Island, followed by Hawaii, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey. Each of these states has strong gun violence prevention laws and has a lower rate of gun ownership."

LA and MS have large segments of poor communities so that explains those 2. Alaska, Wyoming and Montana seem strange, but I am willing to bet the overall population in those states are less than most so it may correlate to the high per capita rate.

I'm not sure you understand the term "per capita". And using your logic then the top 5 should include West Virginia and Kentucky and New Jersey and New York should not be amongst the lowest. You're reaching.

Population of Wyoming 576,000
Population of Louisiana 4.6 Million
Per Capita, 1 gun death in Wyoming = 8 in Louisiana

Violence Policy Center
Anything released buy this organization I'm skeptical of. The Violence Policy Center is a non-profit organization that pushes for more gun control. Statistics can be twisted to show whatever you want, and the people at The Violence Policy Center have become very good at it.

The center concluded that states with the lowest overall gun death rates have lower rates of gun ownership and stronger gun violence prevention laws.
I like them to explain how this explains Chicago. Second of all that statement is not true.
For example this chart is from the CDC website that they referenced in the article. Shows that Homicide rate is half of what it was 20 years ago, and hasn't made a severe jump in 10 years

In Louisiana, if the AIDS doesn't get you a gun will.
Several of you should move. Let Paige stay.

The only answer is MOAR GUNZ!!
The most logical answer is less black people, but the solution is frowned upon by some.
Without black crime, the US crime rate would be lower than Belgium. Bottom line, one race drives all of these violent crime statistics.

America will start realizing that when it becomes true. Sure, some crime is driven by poverty, but there are lot of poor white communities throughout the country that don't have murder problems.
The correlation between race and crime isn't coincidental; it's direct.

What do those 5 states have in common? Hunting. They have such high gun ownership because a lot of people hunt in those states

Now that we've seen the skewed version, lets take a look at the official stats shall we?
TLDR Version: There is no statistical correlation between firearm murders and gun ownership.
Top 10 states with gun ownership vs likelihood (if you ARE murdered) of being murdered with a firearm:

You are on to something there, you get shot in New Orleans the chances of you dying doubles when compared to Chicago. And the stats for New Orleans include the mother day's shooting when those brothers went 0 for 19. Newspaper ran an article New Orleans doesn't have a crime problem, New Orleans has a murder problem.
2013 Chicago 415/2185 16% chance of dying
2013 New Orleans 155/321 32.5% chance of dying

That's funny, because the vast majority of people killed by firearms are killed by handguns, not rifles.
