How the frick are we doing 30k tests a day? That’s absurd. That’s almost 1% of the population every day.

If I understand what you’re getting at, it’s possible. Hospitals are full but not necessarily due to COVID patients - you’ve got a lot of people finally getting elective surgeries done and a lot of people who should have gone to the doctor sooner but put things off because of COVID fears, restrictions, or whatever.
Anyhow, with hospitals testing all admits for COVID, it stands to reason that you likely have some folks that test positive but are asymptomatic adding to the hospitalization numbers. As has been stated many times, the hospitalization numbers are people hospitalized with COVID, not necessarily because of COVID.
ETA: Unfortunately there’s not really any way to determine how much impact this has on the hospitalization numbers, at least not from the data available to the public.

I don’t believe this for a second. How many labs are doing this? Is it 100 labs doing 300 tests a day with people in line around the block? Where are these places with hundreds of people waiting outside in this heat? I just can’t imagine that many people being tested.

Exactly. It’s been harder and harder to get a test.
I’m convinced it’s every hospital testing every patient with or without symptoms. Every jail, nursing home, and factory repeatedly testing everyone, etc.

I’ve been told labs can run covid tests 10 at a time in one machine. No idea how long it takes or how many machines that they have. Besides not enough.

Our home tests everyone who hasn’t been positive every Monday. Staff and employees, mostly employees as about 10 of our residents haven't had it. And I work in another parish but it’s starting to get into the homes in Vermilion parish.

My grandpas nursing home is listed at 151 residents, 41 positives
So 110 negative residents that have been tested every week for last 5 weeks
Not including staff tested weekly
There are around 275 nursing homes in the state doing the same

I know of maybe a half a dozen people that have been tested once each. That's it.

There is no way they are testing 100k per day
