He’s saying 100k positive tests, cumulative total for the state. Not 100k per day.

Although we are somehow managing 30k tests per day, which is a shitload as others have mentioned.

ETA: At the rate of reported tests over the past 7 days, we could test the entire population of Louisiana every 6 months..

The # of cases from 7/15 - 7/21 as of yesterday (before their afternoon adjustment) was 4,555. The # from 7/15 - 7/22 after today's results is 6,412.

So, of the 2,771 new cases reported today, only 1,857 was from the past 7 days (7/15 - 7/22)*. Technically 8 days, but the results from today (13 tests) are so small it gets lumped in.

Edit: Data from "New Cases by Collection Date" tab

As has been stated many times, the hospitalization numbers are people hospitalized with COVID, not necessarily because of COVID.

Well, the general public isn't going to comprehend that.

No argument here. The general public has trouble comprehending anything without someone explaining it like they’re 5. Hell, I would be surprised if 50% of the population have ever even created a scatter plot in Excel, much less analyzed any significant amount of data to determine underlying trends.

For the record, I don’t actually think there’s anything wrong with the way we are reporting hospitalizations. It’s objective, and subjectivity makes for bad data. People just need to understand what the data does and does not tell you. You can’t fix stupid. If you’re going to curate everything for the lowest common denominator, you may as well just tell them to drink Brawndo.

Didn't that dr. at the presser yesterday say that they have more people in the hospital now because of having things shut down in March? So people are sicker now and have Covid? Maybe I was hearing things.

This is all I could find with his comments

Of course they don’t quote the part of his speaking part yesterday where he says that the hospitalizations are not all covid illness but covid related because people were scared.

If you refer to July 5th, the positive rate actually increases from today's reports. Moved from 14.96 to 15.01.

Only 17 deaths yesterday though.

A lot of those deaths were very backlogged for some reason

That is usually the case

Seems like there were more backlogs than normal, but not sure if that is representative of increased deaths or some other issue. LDH obviously didn't provide info.
