Agree we’re using the vent less now, but that’s the only stage where the decision makers are motivated in both directions. Hospital admins may be talked into “watching someone for a few days” which would count as an admin - especially if we’re talking about patients where money isn’t an issue, but a doc isn’t going to be talked into intubation (I hope).
To me the (modest) increase in recent weeks in ventilator use, at a time when we’ve reduced their use in treatment, is the only stat that can’t be explained via another motivation/statistical artifact.

To date not one member of JBE’s media harem has asked how positives counted. Q: Contact tracers contact a positive person, (even asymptomatic), & gets list of 20 contacts. Five test negative & 15 refuse testing. ARE YOU REPORTING 15 TEST REFUSALS AS POSITIVE?

I think you are making the argument that vents are a solid indicator of whether the spread is actually rising or falling. Everyone on the OT thinks the deaths and hospitalizations are being inflated. But I don't think I've seen someone claiming the vent numbers are fake yet.

I think it's a combo of all three. Even if we assume that deaths and hospital numbers are inflated, the rise of those numbers still indicates that the increase in cases is due to more than just 'more testing'.

Interesting. I’m in the minority still taking this seriously but that’s a pretty damning find.

Kinda weird that deaths are slowing...we keep being told the spikes in cases would be leading to MORE deaths

I was more meaning vents cannot be used to look back and compare to where we were.

To me, it’s more an indicator that community spread did its damage in the elderly population earlier this year. Younger people more capable of handling the virus are taking longer to treat, for one, and not dying at the same rate.

I'm not saying I agree with the decision but my guess is it's based on a few things....
1) The bars I've seen aren't complying with occupancy rules at all. Sucks for those that may be complying, but no one was really policing them.
2) you can't really drink in a bar with a mask on, but I can shop for groceries, clothes, tools, etc with a mask. If I'm at a restaurant, I can take my mask off to eat but I'm only in the proximity of the people I arrived with and maybe the server.
3) people in bars get in close proximity to each other, without a mask, then yell over the music to each other spitting out respiratory droplets in each other's face.
I understand people want to bitch about regulations and masks, but bars seem like they would be the most likely place to actually spread something over just about any other business I can think of.
