Which reported numbers should be considered most useful?
Case count I think is the “truth” but not the whole truth - it discounts how many actual cases we missed earlier and age matters a great deal.
Hospitalizations are closer to an actual defined societal value, once we accept that there is no functional zero-risk proposition “we will make sure that we have the capacity to help those who need it”. However, now that it’s kids with better insurance getting it, this is open for games $$ (the name of the game being - admit for observation for a few days)
Deaths are valid but on a hefty lag, too hefty to really make decisions based off of it,
It’s gotta be ventilators right? Can’t think of anyone getting a tube rammed down their throat for fun.

Most of us don’t. We look at hospitalizations, vents, and deaths. One of which was a great number (deaths), one which was ok (vents), on that isn’t good (hospitalizations).
I hope that places are admitting people they didn’t admit the first spike due to lack of space, but I have no clue if that’s happening or not

Disagree. We have changed our treatment of this disease significantly since the spike. Before hand we rushed to get everyone on a vent to help stave off this thing. Now we do everything we can to NOT put someone on a vent.
I think it’s a combo of hospitalizations and deaths
