So you all think it's not smart idea to proactively acquire ventilators? Not sure why that reflects bias one way or the other. Is JBE potentially fudging the numbers? Yes. Is there a calculated reason behind it? Yes. Does that reason make perfectly objective sense? Yes.
What's the issue?

It is sad this post has so many upvotes. There is literally no way to spin less people on vents as a bad thing, yet you're trying to

I don’t think trying it’s a big flex on the governor if 68 people died and then 64 people replaced them on the vent but I guess people will use anything to advance their agenda.
the agenda in looking for positives in all of this
how fricking dare they

Well the vent range is rather wide .. and yes, it would be an awesome and appreciated thing if they would update that model. April 4 was indicated that it would be updated but it doesn't seem that it was from what I see.

Way to change the issue at hand.
Putz.

He doesn't need to wait BUT he doesn't need to ask for 10s of thousands either.
As he explained during one of the press conferences, just because he requests 10,000 doesn't mean he will get even a fraction of that amount. He asked for... what... 5,000 from the feds and got only about 150 or so from what someone reported via Sen. Kennedy. When he puts in requests to private companies he said he has no way of knowing whether they'll deliver or go with New York or California or Georgia or nearly any other state in the Union that's putting in orders.

So what, in your mind, is the issue? Because that's the issue I've been talking about.

My issue with it was NOT that he's trying to be prepared. It's that he was asking for 10s of thousands of vents. In my very simple mind all that did was cause panic and it wasn't needed.

I just don’t think it’s right to say that JBE is mad because the vent numbers are where they are and not higher. Its also celebrating that people are no longer requiring vents because they died. 64 families out there wish they had a family member still requiring a vent. I’m glad that the vent number hasn’t met the worst case projections. I just don’t think it’s a time to try to dunk on bel edwards.

Increase in deaths is troubling.
It will be increasing for 14 or more days since stay at home order most likely. Don’t let it surprise you.

I wonder if the decrease on venilators is attributable to deaths.
It certainly didn’t increase vent use.

Good leader:
“We will acquire as many vents as possible to be prepared”
Leader that will people lose faith in
“ we need x amount of vents because we will run out by this weekend”
Then the is weekend comes at we are at 50% vent capacity
You especially lose faith when the medical leaders of the largest systems tells the governor they won’t run out, and the governor then goes and says it anyway.....

Thanks for acknowledging that. As explained above and as Edwards has stated in your press conference. You can only bank on getting a fraction of vents requested. You ask for 500, you get 50. That's reality.
'Panic' is irrelevant when there's already a stay at home/social distancing order.

No? Because some people do come off of a vent ... do you know that the decrease of 10 was from death? Who said? It could be that 4 came off .. or 2 .. who knows??

This has nothing to do with the terrible spin job you attempted

Asking for 10,000 to the plain Louisiana people means that "oh noz omg 10000 people are gonna die". Seriously. I get it -- hey mom, can I have $50 (when I really want $20) but soooo many people equate 10000 vents with we're all gonna die.

The entire point in all of this is to not overwhelm the healthcare system.
Anytime critical parts of the system declines in usage, its a good thing.
Vent usage lags death, FWIW, so if we continue to see drops in vent usage, deaths will also begin to decline.
It's a good thing. Stop trying to make it not.

Yes this post which was my posts were referring to had no political intent and was purely celebrating interventions having a positive impact and nothing to do with trying to score points against a politician

also, you judge individuals by how the conducted themselves in the past
And the fact JBE once threatened LSU football being cancelled for budget cuts, is proof he is willing to make absolutely outlandish claims to get his way
Once again, that isn’t me being political. That is simply the truth about how a man conducts himself based on past actions.

deaths will also begin to decline.
I personally think that it'll go up first for a few days. It's "predicted" to peak on April 10 at 76. I don't think that this is too far off. I don't like any deaths believe me. I'm just still praying that the residents in my nursing home are ok.
