Maybe if the crawfish farm owners didn't drive in f350s and have two story houses, they could pay the American workers a little bit better and still not raise the crawfish prices. I would much rather see it go back to getting crawfish out of ditches and spillways ourselves or coonass friends that did it. It was much cheaper back then.

Natural reproduction wouldn't put a dent in this region's appetite for crawfish.

We always had plenty of crawfish back then, I mean plenty. I remember trying to catfish and bayou sorrel and pigeon and anytime your bait hit the bottom you were doing nothing but catching crawfish. I remember having to use dog food for crawfish bait because there was so much crawfish you could get a sack for $10. After the crawfish farms came in and those owners form their cabal, prices started to skyrocket and they started to tell us how much we needed them. I'm telling you, it was a lot better back then when we didn't have the farms

Shameful. We have tons of people in Louisiana living on public assistance who might be encouraged to apply for these jobs if they did not have to compete against cheap foreign labor.

The seasonal workers I’ve been around who work the crawfish and other crop fields in Acadia Parish have always been good and pleasant to have amongst the communities.
Totally agree. I know a crawfish farm located way out in the country near Evangeline Parish that has used the same seasonal workers for a decade. Really solid people who come for the season, live on site, and go back home fairly paid and happy.
This is how the seasonal worker program is supposed to work. Legal and documented temporary migrant labor to get a specific job done.

There are enough able-bodied sacks of shite in those areas to do the work. Cut off the government benefits.

No care. I prefer shrimp. 10/10

Imagine a business owner, one who puts his/her own arse and money on the line, driving an F350 and living in a 3,500-4,000 sq ft 2 story house. The horror.

I hear you, but crawfish has really grown in popularity in neighboring states and beyond.

At that time, industry also wasn’t having to supply 7000 restaurants in Houston and shipping sacks to HEB in Midland-Odessa. Times have changed.

So someone that takes a risk with their own money and is successful shouldn’t reward themselves with a truck or maybe build themselves a home? Is it only crawfish farmers? Or do you feel that way about the hundreds of other industries? You sound like a liberal dipshit.

A host of Patel crawfish LLCs will open and they'll scam the visa program.

Yep 30 years ago 90% of the production came from the basin. Present day the basin makes up maybe 10% of production. Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and all the way to Florida. Demand alot of times doesn’t get met even with all the pond production

I’ve said this before over the last few years. It’s the same ones going on tv crying. Don’t lump all farmers in the same boat.

Because americans would take the 6 figure jobs Poor Americans wont work in sugar cane fields or crawfish ponds for $100 a day They would rather do nothing.
So you’d rather low class low iq individuals come but disallow people like Elon Musk, arguably the most influential American in the world outside Trump today

Ok. Honest question, who sets crawfish prices in Louisiana?
Posted on 1/28/26 at 4:49 pm to Jake88
There’s a handful of crawfish farmers, buyers, and peeling plant owners, that get together once a week usually beginning of the week and set the price.
