We have all the entertainment and sporting we could want besides skiing and mountain climbing. I think this is a truly beautiful state. Do we have issues? Of course. But some of you who believe everywhere else is perfect don’t live in the reality I’ve experienced.
Not to mention Nola area is a short drive to nice beaches in AL/FL.
All these people swearing Tx is perfect never mention the issues here and the difference in COL. they tax you to death in Tx. Crime rates aren’t non existent. Worst of all, everything and everyone is super generic. The homes are almost all lookalike cookie cutter. The people are all transplants mostly from CA, NY and the Midwest. They’re all weird and standoffish. Nothing like Louisiana folk.

Not to mention, the heat. yes it gets hot as shite during summer in louisiana but it is no where near the severity of texas heat

I think weather in Texas is too similar to really say it's "worse" than Louisiana's, but weather definitely felt more extreme in DFW.

I just wish there was more start up opportunities for college kids and young families.
Just tell those college kids to go to law school, be mediocre law students, pursue personal injury, and profit.

Don’t get me started on how Tx is the most overrated state. Urban Texas that is.

SETX gets hotter and more humid than La. Plus there’s much less greenery and more concrete so it conducts heat super bad.

Maintained the same role.

This describes my TX experience well.

There’s definitely worse places to be than metropolitan Tx but let’s be honest. Its proximity to La plays a massive role in why so many of us end up here.
If Mississippi offered the same exact opportunities, we’d be flocking there too.
As much as we pay in “school” taxes in Tx we could just pay for private school in La. These “school taxes” are how they build these ridiculous FB stadiums. The roads are decent I guess? But if you want to get around you really need a toll tag because they design it where the free roads are very inconvenient and pretty much force you to drive the toll roads.

Seriously the roads are better in Mexico than they are in Louisiana. Then just look at education, crime, corruption, poverty. Like I said "objectively" Louisiana is absolutely bottom of the barrel, "subjectively", meaning appreciating the culture, food, sports, is of course different.

All of you shitting on Louisiana, how many have lived there your entire life vs grew up there and left? Just curious how any of yall left for greener pastures and realized it’s not as great outside as it was inside.

Every other state I've ever lived in or even been to is less impoverished, cleaner, better roads, more efficient government, better education, less incarceration, etc than Louisiana. Sans Mississippi of course. Of course there are great things about Louisiana, just like there are great things about a country like Honduras, but objectively it's worse than other states by almost every metric

Grew up in Louisiana, left 10 years ago. Louisiana will always hold a place in my heart, but I’ll never move back.
Sometimes the grass really is greener on the other side.

With young kids, I saved money moving from Dallas daycares to NOLA private schools. I was also concerned with my area’s public schools and the feedback we were getting from other parents. I know what I’m going to get here with private schools.
I’m not ignorant enough to say the infrastructure, government, etc weren’t better there. To each his own. We recognized that while being able to maintain our same careers in moving home, our children’s lives would be far more enriched in Louisiana culture. Where they go from here is up to them, and we’ll support them every step of the way.

One of the things that makes Louisiana unique is how many natives stay here and raise their families here. You'd think from the OT that everyone leaves, but that is not the reality. Most places in the US are much more transitory. One of the things I love about living in New Orleans is that I grew up here, and many, many of the people I grew up with reside here. Most days, I see someone I know in the grocery store. When I go to dinner I often run into someone I've know since I was a teenager or younger. If I go to a Mardi Gras ball or similar event, I seen dozens of people I know well and want to talk to. If I were to start over in a new city, sure I would earn more money but I would lose an entire social network that cannot be rebuilt in the years I have left. When more and more people are isolated and lots of men report that they have no good friends, that is worth something to me.

Honestly this is key to me. I don’t want my kids to grow up in the generic lifestyle that suburban Tx offers. Louisiana culture and Louisiana traditions are so special and make growing up there so great.
Suburban Tx is just so bland. If it weren’t for the numerous La transplants it would be even worse!

What about the objective measures? Like I said compare it to a 3rd world country, yes there are rich people and nice areas in all of them. But Louisiana is absolutely at the bottom when speaking of education, crime, corruption, poverty, incarceration, etc.

If you're super rich then anywhere is good. I'm saying objectively and overall Louisiana is shite
