There are other places where I wouldn’t mind living, but man I am so proud to show off our state when people come from out of town. It really is a very unique place and there’s a lot to be proud of. I’m happy to be from and live here.

Grew up in Louisiana. About an hour from New Orleans.
I Love New Orleans.
I’m so saddened at what has happened to the city in the last 4 years. I pray it eventually can be fixed.
Growing up it always had a feeling of a little danger but nothing like this.
But there is nothing like it anywhere.

I love how your balls sweat everyday in July until you get a rash, and I like the chicken and sausage gumbo.

I moved out of Louisiana in 2008. Everytime I come back I realize how much I miss the place. The food. The people. Greenery everywhere. Nightime nature noises. Real rain. And yes, I do miss humidity. Utah is way to dry for me.

People downvoting this are the problem. So many of the natives have this broken mentality. One guy simply said he is proud to be from there, enjoys showing people around and yall just couldn’t allow that.

God damnit some of you people are just the scum of the planet

let’s try a positive thread for once.

In NELA we have it easier than the lower areas.
We have no:
Volcanos to worry about, yet
Hard earthquakes, yet.
Hurricanes don’t have a lot of affect on us, typically.

In the years to come, all of this will change and not for the better.

Until we’re living on an inactive body, this will always be the case.

Being from Louisiana is like being from a third world country.. you don't necessarily hate it and are proud of it in a way, especially with the cultural stuff that comes along with Louisiana. But let's get real, it's objectively terrible in almost every sense. If you were able to choose where to be born you would be crazy to choose Louisiana.

My buddy lives in Virginia with his wife. They only come to visit his family in Shreveport on Christmas. Last year they came in late March and the wife couldn't get over how beautiful the spring is here. And I agree.

It is so unfortunate that you are right. The reasons are obvious. I wish deep in my heart that La. as a state will get better. The people deserve a better run state.

But let this be an "appreciation thread"

We are sad for what this state could be, but isn't.

A poor, uneducated populace, crime-ridden cities, and pathetic elected officials don't do enough to offset the great food, awesome natural resources and inate hospitable people.

Visit here, but don't base your family or business here.

this backwards arse state is running on fumes. The land is sinking, the people are getting stupider and trashier, the demographic scale is beyond repair and the people who are supposed to be leaders are just robbing the till.

it’s also the place that has allowed me a considerable living, a nice piece of property at a good price, a year round growing season, incredible food and world class music

I’m conflicted but…that’s the way it goes. Ain’t no free lunch

It’s really bad and really good at the same time. If a few ONLY a few of the negatives could get cleaned up, it would improve the entire situation.

Literally just one negative thing. Like fix the public schools. That would solve so many issues.

Endless expanses of marsh with occasional shell middens where Jean Laffite may or may not have stopped to exchange goods bound for New Orleans. Someone may be casually catching a slot red on a subsiding midden and and have no clue about it's colorful history.

The Mississippi River has everything to do with what makes Louisiana unique and special.

Also, build the diversions!

I love this state and love my city. According to the OT, I’m the mindless scum that left the opportunities of Texas to return home to shitty NOLA. I chose to raise my family here and am constantly reminded that I made the right choice. New Orleans and Louisiana truly have a heartbeat that is palpable - if you live away for long enough you really start to appreciate the people and the culture.

My first trip to the grocery store after living away for 8 years I was instantly reminded that, generally, people here are kind and share a bond regardless of your upbringing, background, or beliefs. Simple gestures, salutations, and smiles weren’t something I experienced while I was away to the degree they occur here. Call me simple, but that’s worth a lot to me.

Did you take a lesser career path to return home or was it an equal career path?

I travel all over for work and still choose to live here. I love living in the NOLA area and a walk uptown is one of my favorite things to do. We have all the entertainment and sporting we could want besides skiing and mountain climbing. I think this is a truly beautiful state.

Do we have issues? Of course. But some of you who believe everywhere else is perfect don’t live in the reality I’ve experienced.

people always repeat this on here but it's not really true in my opinion. i've lived in 4 states (one being Louisiana) and they're all more similar than not.
