I mean...that’s the point of doing sets and trying out new material, to find what works and how it works and playing with the wording and delivery.

This wasn’t some big stand up special, and I think he even says the people there didn’t even know he’d be performing a day before. So i’d expect it not to be as polished.

Well you're ignorant so i'm not surprised that you feel this way.

Anybody with a comedic pulse knows how to approach a taboo joke. You make it relatable to the audience, but then hit hard. He didn't do that. Of course comedians work on their sets with an audience, but that's not what this is about. Louis knows joke structure better than you or I ever will. That's why this looks lazy

I think he might have a decent parkland shooting joke there, but it's sloppy and missed the mark as done in the leaked recording. It needs to be reworked.

Which is the entire point of trying out new material in a limited setting. A leaked recording is not representative of what this would eventually become if allowed to “work it out” and fine tune it before it went public.

But now it’s public, so nobody will probably ever hear the refined product, just this demo version of the joke.

All stand up comics work this way. Back when Chris Rock hosted the Oscars, he’d go to open mic nights and do his entire monologue or selected jokes to help fine tune them. Sometimes a premise is all there is and it needs to be honed in.

I didn’t find the bit all that compelling either and I’m a big Louis CK fan. It’s definitely not a finished piece — or maybe his sensibilities are changing.

He's way smarter than that joke as comprised. It felt gratuitous and lazy. I can see an angle where there might be a good social commentary bit there

"I'm not condoning rape obviously you should never rape someone....unless you have a reason like you want to frick someone and they won't let you!"

Wow I can't believe how socially conscious and inciteful CK was back then. What happened?

I'm all for edgy comedy, but school shooting jokes are better left for the inside of your head. That's just poor decision making. Being a comedian doesn't give you a free pass to say things without consequences.

Was it even a joke, really?

It's just true.

Being in a car accident doesn't make you an expert on road safety. The same goes for gun safety. Why the hell does anyone care what these Parkland victims think? Feel bad for what they experienced, but they have no more expertise than the average teen.

Yep. I think it was pretty shitty of the comedy writer in the audience to record and release it.

Comics often talk about how they pop into clubs for few minutes and work out a bit, often for months, before it is fine tuned enough to put in their big show or a TV special. They hate that phones and assholes have fricked them from going through that process.

I might expect some dork from Jersey to record anyway, but I would have though a comedy writer would be more respectful. He probably wouldn't like it if someone took his first draft of a show and released it before he finished the script.

yeah, you got me, I know nothing about jokes or humor or storytelling.

How dare I speak on the subject.

What again was so bad about it?

It was definitely not a SJW set. Mostly social commentary. Worth the listen
