lost my wallet once in a parking lot.

A man found it, tracked me down and returned it to me.

Cash was still inside, so I offered it to him.

Cancel everything immediately. You have no way of knowing who had access to your information.

It seems strange to me that he left his name and number. If it was a genuine act of kindness, he should not expect thanks or a reward.

I would do what others have suggested and cancel everything. To be on the safe side, since he knows where you live, you might want to burn your house down and get out of town.

DeAngelo is looking for a reward. Any decent person would just return the wallet and leave it at that.

I've found wallets full of cash before, and each time, I've had friends and family berate me for not asking for a reward.

I have never understood this mentality. Apparently it's very common.

If the cash would have been there I would have called.

Screw him, he made $80. Though to me saving a trip to the DMV is worth hundreds so you got off well.

I found a wallet full of cash (several hundred plus) in Goodwood Hardware parking lot. Had a ton of credit cards in it as well as a LSU student ID. I spent several hours tracking the kid down. He didn't have his phone number in the wallet. I searched the internet for his contact info because of no phone number associated with address on his drivers license. Finally, as a last resort since his last name was unusual, I called a business nearby whose owner had the same last name. The secretary there said it was the owners sons wallet and he was frantic to get it back. I drove it over and sure enough the college age kid was there and was grateful to get everything back.
He didn't even begin to offer a reward, and I'd have definitely turned it down if he would have. However, I do know If the situation were reversed I'd have at least offered a $20 bill to him.
A month later, I was driving with my 10 year old son in the car. I saw a wallet in the road and turned around to retrieve it. I thought this could be a teaching moment for my son about returning lost items to their owners. It had a drivers license, concealed carry permit, a few credit cards and a small amount of cash in it. Again, no phone number for contact.
I drove to the guys address and he lived in a gated apt. Couldnt deliver it to the guy, so gave it to my attorney to deal with. Two letters were written to the guy telling him to come pick it up at the attorneys office and he never responded.
Some people are weird.

He thought he was being set up for some type of "served notice". You scared that guy to death!
