Came home this evening to find my 9 year old dog had passed away. I’m in shock and I buried her, but I still keep waiting for her to come hop in my lap. Can’t remember a time I have felt so depressed. Any help appreciated.

Your dog was a part of your life, but you were everything in your dog's life. Just know you gave her a good one.

Im sorry man, I know how tough that is. I lost my girl 5 years ago and I still have dreams about her about once a month. And then Ill wake up and look for her. Until I realize it was a dream and I get a little sad.

Hang in there bud.

1 day at a time. It will get better and the pain will subside.

I Lost a pet a few years ago. He was 14.

Sorry to hear that. My oldest dog will be 11 this year and I know time will come one day. You love your pet, but never really understand that love until something happens or what you experienced. Again, sorry your doggo passed. I suck at words like this so hope you understand what I'm saying.

I dont know, I would kind of treat like a person I loved and cared about had passed.

Take time and reflect on their life and use the above aid in the gif if needed. Try to put into perspective the joy and the best memories they gave you. (kind of funny because it is usually the moments that made you the angriest when they initially happened)

be grateful for the years you had together and be sad for a time because you lost something that mattered to you. Eventually you find a way to deal and cope with the feelings as they subside but your love for that dog never will.

Yep. There is no good way for a pet to die. Always feels like a punch to the gut, at best.
My advice is to get another pet to help you cope.
But, first see if you can figure out what happened to cause your dog to just die today.
Best of luck and I'm sure you'll be able to find that next special pet just for you.

Any help appreciated.

There’s nothing anyone can say or do to ease your grief right now
It’s will be tough but it will slowly get better
Soon you will be able to talk about her & laugh instead of cry & those days will come more often as time goes on

I am very sorry for your loss, dogs are amazing animals that give us so much more than we could ever give them

Can't say that I have good advice. All I can say is that losing a pet does suck arse, but you should feel happy in the fact that you gave her a great life. It's not only a pet, but your dog is like family, and we grow greatly attached to it, and it breaks the heart of anyone who has to go through it. I've gone through this twice with my two dogs and it's the worst. Dogs don't live forever though so cherish every damn moment you have with them.

I don't know if this helps. It does sound like you're a great owner though. Condolences sir.

That’s the only part I hate about having my dog. I don’t care about the hundreds of dollars towards boarding, vet care, food etc.. it’s all more than worth it. I just hate thinking about the fact that I’ll lose him one day. Brutal

Losing anything you care lots about hurts. It's the one part of life that never gets easy. Just remember, tough times don't last but tough people do.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your pup....there is not really anything to say that will help much right now.

I lost my dog about 5 years ago and I still think about him on occasion. Most recently was tonight as I was throwing away some steak scraps after supper...man, he would have loved that shite!

It’s so hard, but you’ll get through it. I’m sorry for you and what you’re going through. Been there many times.

A week ago today I had to put my cat of 18 years to sleep. I know cats don't get much respect on here but cats are my favorite pets. I don't have to explain why but I loved my cat like most of ya'll love your dogs. It was sad. She stopped eating and drinking and after a few days, we took her in and she got IV fluids. That perked her up but she still wouldn't eat or drink and she kept trying to go outside which is very unlike her. She stopped grooming herself. That's all signs that a cat is ready to die. So, Friday night I wrapped her in a towel and held her until 3 a.m. Took her in the next morning and honored her last request. Held her in my arms until she stopped breathing. I'm 42 years old and cried for a few hours. But, we know that day is going to come and it's sad, but it's not really like losing a close friend or a family member. The grief is real and painful but shorter lived. I loved that lil rat and I miss her dearly.

But, I already have another cat lined up that I'm picking up next week. Another full blooded female Bengal young cat. Beautiful coat, looks like a little cheetah.

I think I'll call her Moses or Snacks, I haven't decided...

Really sorry for your loss, bud. I know it’s never easy to lose a true friend, but I promise it does get easier as time goes by.

May fond memories bring peace and comfort to you.

Sorry for your loss.

Consider getting another pet. You might be surprised at how much it helps.
