Thats why I'm not getting another till I know I'm within a few years of death. Can't take outliving another one.

I wouldn’t shed a tear for the majority of human population if they didn’t wake up tomorrow but this mean arse cat I’ve had for 15 years had to be put down today and seeing him unable to get around and coming to terms with what had to be done has me bawling like a baby.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was the same way about my dog a couple months ago. I hadn't cried in years beforehand and haven't cried since, but for the first 48 hours after my dog passed, I was frequently balling my eyes out.

I saw this somewhere on the internet, maybe even this site, and I saved it because it did comfort me, and maybe it will comfort you too:

“There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings and walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” - Suzanne Clothier

The shitty nature of the universe and its finality sucks. We are supposed to find something beautiful in death, but I don't know. Death kinda sucks. Good luck

Death is what gives our purpose any measure or emphasis. That life is finite gives us the rush in our work, the immediacy of action. Is is the necessary bookend of a life hopefully made useful. With some genuine honest effort in life, we can slide peacefully into the hereafter, a reward for toil well made. Life done right, death is merely a friendly rite of passage.

15 years? Sounds like you were a good owner and the cat had a good run. Yes, it sucks to lose them, but you gave him a great life . Well done friend! Focus on the pleasure you brought to each other’s
Lives and how much you meant to each other. Cause you did.

Can’t wait till the day I’m dog free. Biggest mistake of my life was having dogs.

I adopted a cat for my then GF and now wife 11 years ago. We both hate that cranky bitch and will never have another cat.

But it’ll be a sad day when she dies.

My condolences. Had to put our 15 year old down last month. First couple weeks were really rough, I thought I saw him everywhere he'd usually be.
