Eh…. I don’t have the metrics to really quantity but I’m sure someone has. This reads to me as a problem solving issue for something that people have seen in past events

People proudly show off medals for running half a marathon all the time

Because they signed up for a half marathon. No one runs 9 miles and gets a finisher medal.

Yeah, you get a "Did Not Finish" attached to your official record.

The dreaded running temps of low 50's, they'd all die!

It's a fattie thing, they don't want the people that just show up thinking they can walk it, falling out.

Almost every marathon in the South has this type of weather. I’ve ran marathons in the 80s. Yes, it sucks, but you adjust.

It’s horseshite. I would be embarrassed to show off that finisher medal.

Dude, it's not even the low 80's until peak heat, rounding 3-4pm. It starts in the low 50's, moves to the low 70's during most of the race.

This is beyond absurd.

Oh no, not mid to upper 70s with low humidity!!

I had a job in Tupelo, Ms and would run every morning and return to the hotel with sweat dripping off me and not a dry thread on me.

My next job was in Calabasas, CA and would run 3.5 miles on Ventura Blvd early each morning and come back with my shorts and socks still dry.

Yup, humidity is a thing.

And Usain Bolt is a world class hero for running barely the length of a football field.
Obviously a half marathon is exactly half of a full marathon, but these are two different type runs , each requiring months’ long different training efforts.
For the average distance runner, a half marathon is more about a consistent pace that’s pushing your limits for the two hours or so.
Whereas a full is much much more about endurance, mental toughness, and overcoming the aches and pains that may start setting in by mile 20.
The body just isn’t made for marathons frankly .

Sounds like a two-thirds marathon to me. Still impressive.

No it isn’t. It’s quitting.

You signed up (and hopefully trained) for the full marathon. If you quit at 18, you are a quitter

Do they get a medal that says 18 miles or 26.2? Lots of marathons also have shorter distances simultaneously, like half marathons, 5 miles, etc all happening at the same time, and you get a different finisher medal based on how much you did.

In my option, this is probably to mitigate people pushing themselves to much and getting injured or having heat stroke which really causes an issue for the event
Why stop at 18 then?

What if someone gets hurt at 12 miles because they are pushing themselves too hard?

This is simply a mediocrity medal.

Ideal marathon temperature is 42 degrees.

The weather will be a problem for a lot of people

Only for idiots that didn't train. If you can't run in the low 70's with low humidity, stay your arse home and eat cheetos.

Participation trophies doesn’t teach anything but mediocrity.
