Only for idiots that didn't train. If you can't run in the low 70's with low humidity, stay your arse home and eat cheetos.

I doubt half the people in this thread can even run a 5k

What does that have to do with my point? If you train properly, you can adapt to weather. Go look at Miami Marathon and Boston Marathon as examples of crazy weather.

50's to 70's, and sunny? Oh no! It's death incarnate!

Now that's some sissy shite. The running boom we're going through has been nice in some regards, but man it's attracted some absolute losers to the sport too.

Not counting trips up and down a basketball court….if you added up the total distance I have run in my entire life, I doubt it would total 18 miles.

I played football, basketball, and baseball in hs, even a little track. good thing about that was no preseason conditioning, with the exception of August two a days, just go from one game to the next, but I used to watch the basketball team out on the track while at football practice, they spent more time running on the track than in the gym

Don't worry, you'll still get blisters & chafing.

How many OTers can run 8.2 miles?? That's what's being shortchanged. This is just pathetic

This is the literal elephant in the room. Fatties doing runDisney races have started to invade these other events, and now the organizers are catering to them because of the almighty $.

Disney gives you a finisher medal even if you get swept by the balloon ladies at mile 1.

I've even seen fatties on Facebook asking to buy a medal that they DNFd at a runDisney race. That shite is pathetic.

I saw a woman on Facebook called the fat black chef or something like that. She walks marathons and because some of them just let you finish whenever, she twerks big chunks of it. It's really strange.

Edit, found her name, it's the Running Fat Chef. Seriously, go look her up. She isn't running anywhere.

In my option, this is probably to mitigate people pushing themselves to much and getting injured or having heat stroke which really causes an issue for the event

Then stay on your couch pussy. Don't sign up for a marathon if you can’t at least walk across the finish line before the sun goes down.

There are thousands of marathons every year. Many in much more difficult climates than what's expected here.

marathoners who are “having a tough day” can take a turn at mile 18, head to the finish line early, and still collect a finisher medal.

The battle of marathon happened. The Athenians won. So they sent a runner to tell the Greeks in Athens that they won but the Persian fleet was still running. The distance between Athens and Marathon is exactly how long a Marathon is

According to legend, the Greek messenger Pheidippides ran from Marathon to Athens in 490 BCE to announce the victory over the Persians, cried out "We have won!" (or "Nike!"), and immediately collapsed and died from exhaustion.
