sounds like Los Angeles has some statues that have evaded capture.

To the hunt.

Those are rookie numbers. Chicago will pass 700 this weekend for the second time since 1998.

It's going to be worse. I think it will be much worse in the years to come.

I fully expect the Rams & Chargers to have all the victims names listed on their warmups next game.

Glad I retired.

Under Chief Gates it was a good department.
I could see the morale slowly fall after he left.

“Defund the police” isn’t about removing a sort of enforcement body

It’s about removing the police who judge things in black and white and instill an enforcement body that has a sense of marching orders on what to enforce

For instance in domestic dispute the police will arrest the most aggressive party

A “social worker” will arrest the person with the most oppression points and will wait for “facts” and see if they outweigh the inherent guilt of the oppressor in the situation.

LA Times
July 1, 2020

Los Angeles cuts LAPD spending, taking police staffing to its lowest level in 12 years

quote:

The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to cut hiring at the Police Department, pushing the number of sworn officers well below 10,000 and abandoning a budget priority once seen as untouchable by city leaders.

Faced with a grim budget outlook and deluged by demands for reductions in police spending, the council voted 12 to 2 to take the Los Angeles Police Department down to 9,757 officers by next summer — a level of staffing not seen in the city since 2008.

quote:

Overall, the council’s decision delivered a $150-million hit to the LAPD budget, much of it coming from funds earmarked for police overtime pay. Councilman Curren Price, who pushed for the cuts, said two-thirds of the savings would ultimately be funneled into services for Black, Latino and disenfranchised communities, such as hiring programs and summer youth jobs.

They're cutting 100s of millions and funneling it into, literally, midnight basketball and poetry jams.

I wonder if there is something common to when that last happened?

I guess we'll have a good idea on whether defunding the police works in a year then. It'll either get better real quick or it's totally crap.
