Looks like they are knocking down The Esplanade Mall to build condo's

"The Esplanade will not only benefit from our focused and active management, it also is an example of a substantial piece of real estate in a thriving community. We may explore some development to bring new, complementary uses such as residences," said Steve Plenge, Pacific Retail's managing principal.

There's a pretty brand new Target and Macy's there though, right? Wonder what will happen there.

Has the esplanade mall seen a new wave of business? Last I went there it seemed rather ghettofied.

not to mention hands down the best movie theater in the metro area. I can't even deal with the palace anymore.

so you admit your OP is your opinion and not a fact in the article you linked right??
A lot of people get news from here and misstated facts like that are bad.
There is plenty of room to develop right there and they're not going to knock the mall down.
This company has brought many malls around. It was only 15 years ago that Lakeside was the "shitty" mall and Esplanade the "nice" one.

Also, read this from the person who most likely will be elected the next mayor.
"Counting on words of support from the city’s past two chief executives as well as a former top cop, Jefferson Parish Councilman Ben Zahn on Monday formally launched his bid to become the next mayor of Kenner by vowing to pressure the Esplanade Mall to “upgrade or uproot” while also promising to preserve the community’s reputation for safety"

What makes it that much better than the Palace? I don't see movies that often but I always go to the Palace in Elmwood and it seems fine to me.

I haven't been anywhere but Canal Place in several years.
Esplanade used to be my secret weapon. I would do all my Christmas shopping there. One time I went on Christmas Eve and there was pretty much no one there.
Now there's such a lack of shops in there its pointless.

Well for one, the seats are all 1.5 times the size of the ones in the palace. If Shaq was sitting in the reclining chair (they all recline) you could still walk in front of him, that's how wide the rows are.
The best thing is, they don't have those stupid arse Freestyle drink machines.

Your OP is still a lie. That's my point. You make it sound like fact yet can't back it up. You made it up based on what a politician who is running is saying as a campaign promise.

I think you will find the company that bought the mall is also in the business of making condo's. So between nola.com, what Zahn says and what they do this is what I surmised.
