You got young kids, Roger?

Yes, bullying has always happened. But for decades, it generally happened in person, when people were actually together. People said stuff on the school playground passed notes etc.

Social media does not make things "seem worse", they are worse. Now, hundreds of people see the things you say, and it's 24-7.

But by all means, let's minimize the problem. This is the crap that turns into kids shooting at schools.

All the pro-gun people talk about is how we don't need more gun rules. Fine, I agree. But we do need to address the underlying mental issue. This is a big part of it.

I'm the first person to call out the current young generation as snowflakes, soft, etc. But this thing is real.

Well the super has had several chances to flat deny it, and he has not.

We had a kid in our rec baseball that was being bullied by another kid. During practices. We noticed it, and decided the best way to handle it, after consulting with both sets of parents and other coaches, was to move both kids to different teams, so they would be apart from each other.

You gave the bully the upper hand.

I have zero-tolerance for that, especially while in practice. You had the opportunity to show that bully who's truly in the position of power and make his life at practice absolute hell.

Yes, and kids need to be able to deal with these problems instead of avoid them. So do parents

Words aren't bullying. No matter how bad they are.

The 2018 definition of bullying is retarded.

By the rational definition of bullying, it's no more common now that at any other time in history.

You people are so fricking stupid with this. You've been sold the kool aid and drank it all.

Yeah. 30 years ago, if you were bullied, it was only in person.

HOWEVER.

30 years ago. If you were 14 and bullied, you had ZERO avenue of escape. Your entire social life had to be in person. There were no online groups of people just like you to chat with. There were no websites that spoke to people like you. You basically had to become a fricking hermit.

TODAY, yeah. People can post on your Facebook. If you haven't devised a solution to that as a kid, you're problem ain't bullying. Meanwhile, you can log in to literally hundreds of sites where you can at least interact with other people your age.

Gimme a fricking break with this shite. It's only 24/7 if you CHOOOSE to make it 24/7.

The primary problem TODAY is that we no longer make any effort to teach kids to handle criticism. We call it ALL bullying and we develop kids that reach age 16 or so and they can't fricking handle WORDS!

frickING WORDS!

Yep.

It starts very young.

Little Johnny comes home when he's 6 and says, "Mommy, Bobby called me a poo poo face in school".

Mommy runs to the school demanding action!!!

No mommy. fricking teach Johnny that the words poo poo face inflict no actual damage.

While I understand what you are saying... we are not going to make a volunteer dad coach run the kid for days.

Are you really equating bullying to criticism?

Tell you what... have a couple of your friends kids, or maybe one of your kids friends, be bullied and commit suicide at a young age, and get back to me.

Are there some helicopter parents out there? Yes. Do some kids need to learn to toughen up? Yes.

This is well beyond all of those things.

I've been a volunteer coach for 14 years. I've got no problem running kids for behavior in practice, or outside of practice. I set that tone from the first day. You're a member of the team in the gym, and outside of the gym.

Kid gets detention, whole team runs. Kid acts up at practice, whole team runs. Kid acts up again at practice, he gets to run by himself. Usually have one detention and one behavioral issue and that's the end of those issues. Every few years I have the kid that doesn't care and continues to be a bully. I usually end up making him quit...

It you guys aren’t dealing with the situation whatsoever. You’re letting the kid be a frickface little bastard to another kid and there are no repercussions. This is the adults fault when you KNOW there’s an issue and you have chosen to ignore it. Swapping teams does nothing. Take other steps to deal with the situation.

What other suggestions do you have? Kick the kid out of the league because he acts a fool in school? Then when the kid'
s parents sue us, what then?

if he continued to bully another kid in the league you probably had every right to kick him out of the league.

your league failed, and they enabled the bully.

what damages are they going to sue for? reimbursement of league fees?

Who gives a shite? People do dumb stuff as kids. I certainly did. However, if they grow up and are a good person, let it go.
