I can't even handle Louisiana winters. I lived in the PNW for over a year and that one winter was allegedly the worst winter they've had in a long time and I was so miserable.

The summers tho. The weather is perfect, days are long, and people really appreciate the frick outta summer up north. Lots going on.

I don't know why but I've always tolerated cold weather better than hot weather. I'm not a big fat guy or anything. I guess it's genetics.

I don't know if I'd enjoy Northern Minnesota or anything like that though.

Invest in some good snow boots and a nice coat, and you’ll be fine. If you haven’t found a place, put a premium on covered parking so you don’t have to shovel your car out.

Living in the cold isn’t the hellscape that people here make it out to be.

I got an apartment with a garage. It's a game changer.

You’re more of a Greenville, Knoxville or Fayetteville type.

FWIW, I find it funny that the overwhelming reaction when you let people know you're moving away from Baton Rouge isn't "why?" but instead is "congratulations!"

I experienced the same thing.

I guess everyone already knows why.

Don't worry, eventually that will turn to the "Well, bye." gif and a bunch of flack every time you dare mention being happy you left.

Wish I could move to northern Idaho.

Well, intermountain west cold isn’t the same as Louisiana cold, Midwest cold, or East coast cold. For some reason, meteorologists use humidity to calculate heat index, but don’t do the same for cold, only wind is used. The reality is that 50 degrees in Louisiana feels substantially colder than 30 degrees in a dryer climate. Out there, good sublayers make all the difference. In louisiana, the humidity makes it feel like you’re trudging through a fog of ice that permeates every fabric of your being.

Got a friend who lives there. She was wavering between Montana and Idaho and I convinced her to take a job in Couer. Same wage as the Montana job.

She loves it, says it's heaven.

It rains less in the summer time in Portland than in Coeur d'Alene
