First off, pretty much any boots can be comfortable with the right socks.
You can't go wrong sizing up slightly (half-size or less) and getting some Darn Tough wool cushioned boot socks. This will make any boots comfortable. The socks are sturdy, moisture wicking, and don't smell as easily as cotton socks. T4021 is my preference:

Regarding the boots, I am not big on cowboy boots either. But I want something that is sturdy outdoors and can also be worn to the office with jeans. Crockett & Jones is my go-to. Before you balk at the prices, consider how much money you might piss away each month on dining out, drinking, or a car note. These boots will last you many years (decades?) if you take good care of them. Definitely use shoe trees or boot trees (e.g. Woodlore's Boss Boot Tree).
Crockett & Jones Boots
Coniston in Rough-Out Suede
Islay in Scotch Country Grain
Snowdon in Oak Wax Hide
Northcote in Calfskin
Ross with Hurricane Hide and Suede Collar

That’s an “I’ve given up” shoe

When they say Red Wing, it means a real boot (no laces). In the mid 90’s, I swear that a pair of pull up red wings was part of the pledge uniforms of UT/A+M fraternities

How about a pair of Justin Ropers? Not over the top cowboy boots, but infinity less gay than other options posted, especially the wingtip shoe made into a boot.

Thorogoods are legit. Comfortable and sturdy. Not sure how long the sole will last though

Twisted X muck boot, easy on the feet. Not sure if it comes in steel toe, don't think it does.

I assume that’s what the OP is looking for.

I recently bought a pair and I can't believe I waited this long.
Great boots!

To be specific, Red Wing Iron Rangers.
I have a pair that are my daily drivers, about 7 years old and I wear them year round through Texas winter/summer. Literally like a pair of socks on my feet, but the break-in was long and hard. Get high quality wool socks to go with them for the ultimate experience.
These are not mine, but same result:
They age like fine wine.

I’ll most likely buy some Danners from the factory this weekend.
