Almost 7 month deployment.

Between Dec of 2001 and August of 2003 I saw my wife and kids for about 30 days total. 6 months of that was overseas in Afghanistan.

So, 6 months.

This is the age of FaceTime, grow a pair. I got a cassette tape from my dad once a month for 9-12 months at a time (Navy.)

Do be aware that she is getting her parents habits and shite pushed on her and the kid which you have zero hope of changing when she gets back. The kid sleeping in her bed, etc.

Your 6 month old baby won't even know you when you get there. You will be a stranger to them. Go see them sooner. Might not seem like it, but those first few months are incredibly important for developing those bonds. FaceTime won't work with a baby that small. It would be one thing if this was forced. Like for military or whatnot. But if this is voluntary, bring your inlaws to where you are or get over there. It's going to suck when you go to hold your child and they cry because they are afraid of you.

3 nights from my kids. My oldest is 7 years old.

2 nights from my wife.

The "freedom" is cool at first, but after a few hours I just want to be back with everyone.

I will never be able to comprehend how someone could willingly do something (cheat) that would jeopardize their ability to be with their kids.

5.5-6 months was the longest stretch. Now I have in contract for one of us to travel every 6th week for visit. But honestly the worst time was 2018, started nights in Nov of ‘17 and walked out of plant 1/2/19. While I lived at home, I rarely saw the wife or daughter. I was getting home after they left and leaving before they got home. Even when I was home with wife, I was on separate side of house and sleeping. Daughter dated some kid they say I met and have no recollection. Sucked bigly.

Same 2 nights is the max so far for me. I'm not a fan honestly, when the kids spend the night out I enjoy the alone time but it doesn't feel right.

I once had to travel to Japan for 4 weeks when my daughter was about 12 months old. It was very difficult on both me and my wife. If I had to do it over again I would refuse.

Wife - Six weeks at a time for my first job. Six weeks on the job site, a week home. Did that for about a year, made a lot of money, and then started working from the home office.

Kids - 10 Days, took my wife to Europe. We did 5 days in Paris and 5 days in London. I travel a lot for work, usually just 2-3 days, but I do a few international trips a year where I’ll leave Sunday and fly back Saturday (leave Friday).

I don’t think I’d be celebrating that.

There’s gotta be more to this story.

We dealt with ppd also, it’s rough. But I do fail to see how fleeing the country without you and taking your son is a positive thing

To each his own I guess but that’d be a big ole not no but frick no from me

Damn.... maybe a long weekend? Look as a dad of a toddler I live for the quiet of my own hotel room during a buisness trip, but if it drags on to 3 days I'm itching to come home
