I've had about a month gap between interview and offer before. Ended up taking a different job.

Wonder how much that changes between private industry and public.

Y’all boys are small minded. I’ve waited months for the right candidate. Most of the time they were busy tying up lose ends with their previous employers and that’s exactly why I paid a premium to hire them.

4 months end to end when I was 31, so five years ago now.
Turned down a job to work for Saudi Aramaco after going through the lengthy process.
My understanding was they were going to pay high dollar for those with certain skill sets. Mine apparently wasn't lucrative.
For me to think about living in that hell hole, I was expecting over 200k. Wasn't happening.

Technically? 30 months. In the end, it was worth it.

There can be lot of variance for public sector. The public sector job I'm in now, I got the offer one week after the interview- which seems quick relatively speaking. So many people have to sign off on things like hires, and it can be a pain to get through. I know colleagues in other states who regularly have to wait 2-4 weeks on approval to make the offer.

Two months. Owner called and explained the situation which was understandable. They made an offer, I turned it down.

I had a three month hiring process at my current job. About Three weeks wait from last interview to offer.

This is very true.
Both of my more recent moves were quick. My most recent move took about 3 months from advertisement to start date. My previous move took about 2 months from the advertisement of the position to my start date. In both cases, I believe I had the offer within a week or 2.
On the flip side, when I was first hired by the feds, I interviewed in February and I believe it was April before I got the official call from HR (I knew a week after that I was going to be offered the job, but the official offer could only come from HR). My first promotion took forever. The position (which I was acting in at the time) was advertised in August or September, and I didn't have an official start date until the following April.
My first job with the state took all of 30 seconds to get an offer. Went in for what I didn't even know was basically an interview, and was hired on the spot. When I left there to go private, it took less than a week to get the offer.

Just curious, where do you go to find candidates - particularly in the commercial construction field?

I had three months go by since the final interview with no contact from the company. All the sudden I get a call one day with an offer. I had written them off by that point and started with another company (making a higher salary anyway). It was weird.

I'm in commercial construction (GC super), every potential job offer I've had either comes from LinkedIn or recruiting cold calls. The market is so hot right now for experienced staff I'm getting at least 1-2 calls or linkedin emails a week.
If you are looking to hire, get ready to pay. The job offers are stupid. Talking 20-40% over normal market. Plus 5-10k to sign on. It's ridiculous

Strangely enough, the longest I ever had to wait was maybe 6-8 weeks for a job as a coop student. They sent me a check for travel expenses, without comment, about a month after the interview. My dad was like, "ha, guess that's your answer" but sure enough they called back a week or two later with an offer.
This was for a large private sector utility. When I asked them about the delay my boss told me they were interviewing people the whole time and really agonizing over who the best coop student would be. Ultimately, I did find that place was a bit slow in pace for me.

Never had it go more than the end of next day.

I’d say all but one of my offers came within a day or two after the final interview.
One came two months later. I had already moved on.

I know a guy that had his facility shut down on Dec. 15th. He sent out CV's on January 2nd. We hired him aboot January 15th. He was an excellent employee, OCD in his organizational abilities.
One of the companies he had sent a CV to contacted him in October. They offered him 20% more than he was making, 15 miles closer to home, with awesome hours. It was a quick done deal at that point.
