I had a desk job for 40+ years. I found that is the relationships I developed that made the job interesting.

As long as your employer doesn't block TD.com...it's possible.

Yes, but my arse isn't working for 40+ years, this is why you save and spend frugally.

It's hard to work any job happily for 40+ years unless it's work you love. Working until 65 is for the birds.

I'm not even 35 and I'm already close to being burnt out.

I can't possibly imagine working another 30+ years.

I got maybe 10 more years max. 15 if I squeeze out 1 more kid.

I've been doing what I do for close to 25 years now. It is rather depressing to think that I have 20 more

Sure it's possible but I couldn't do it.

I'm outside for most of the day for 365 days/year. I don't care to sit down to even watch TV, and definitely couldn't to stare at emails and spreadsheets.

My older Brother has been a CPA and CFO for decades, absolutely loves what he does. Same things every day for 30 years or so.

Absolutely.

But only if you do one thing: Don't go home and sit down on the couch / recliner and watch whatever until you fall asleep. You have got to force yourself to stay busy outside your job. Develop other interests that you look forward to after 5pm.

And if you don't have the energy to stay busy outside of your day job, you are doing it wrong. Plenty of amateur life coachs here on the OT that would be happy to help you with that.

Outside of vacation, take a day off work every now and then. Not for anything specific, but really just to relax your mind.

This...I try to take 1 day off per month as a "mental health day". Usually, I'll do it on a Wednesday to split up the week.

I have changed roles and companies a handful of times but I've been in the same field that whole time.

I think he could do the same thing for eternity and never tire of it.

Even as kids he was always keeping statistics of everything.

I don't know what I'll do. 20 more years is a long time. Our kids are almost out of HS but I plan to help with college as much as possible. Hopefully they'll all be off the payroll in 6-7 years

I couldn't imagine myself working a deskjob for 40 years. I'm talking like an accountant, banker, etc The less time in the office at my desk the better. Some of those employees don't even have windows to the outside world. So that's going to be a hard no from me on this topic.

I like doing and learning new things, so I move around a lot. It helps here where I am well known enough, not sure that strategy will fly everywhere.

I have to have some interest in my work or it becomes a drag really quickly.

I can work inside, outside now when I choose or feel like it. That helps my mental being at work quite a bit.

You have to get your steps in. I work from home and sit at a desk, but I get up every 30 minutes to an hour or so and take a short walk, or if the weather is nice, go outside and walk around for 5-10 minutes.

I was into my 30s before I finally was able to accept that fact that a desk job was my life, once I did, life was much easier.

Of course. Try manuel labor for a few months and your question is answered. On the opposite end, working in a mostly dudes industry, office work can get to be a pain in the arse. Especially when you are trying to get shite done and someone feels the need to come into your office and tell you for an hour about his son's travel ball league.

So basically all work blows. If someone says they love what they do, unless it's porn, they are full of shite.

As long as the rest of your life is fulfilling, I don't see why not?
