and partial insurance on the trailer

Did they not not not not have insurance?
More importantly, did they have insurance? I think the answer is no. That is why they are screwed and asking for help.

They've only been operating for six weeks.
So? They opened a business, made a poor decision to not fully insure, and now want donations to continue their business of serving coffee that has an 80+ cupping value (whatever the frick that is)

We have truck insurance and partial insurance on the trailer, but there is absolutely no way that it will cover even 1/4 of our losses. As with most budding businesses, our primary concern was liability insurance and the risk of loss of contents in an espresso trailer (no cooking - thus no grease fires possible) is extremely LOW!
To cover that trailer and its contents would have been VERY cheap. A lot cheaper than having to rebuild from nothing.

How do you NOT fully cover the ONE item that is most critical to you making money? Cashed in 2 IRA's to buy an enclosed trailer to make coffee in? 2 IRA's and you couldnt swing a food truck? 2 IRA's and you couldnt afford FULL coverage?

When you donate to help rebuild Small Coffee, you're not just helping "Some coffee shop" - You're helping to rebuild what might possibly become the greatest coffee establishment in the nation - Right here in Baton Rouge.
Am I going to be compensated for this?

I'm surprised their write-up didn't include a section about how impressively floral their farts smell.

So, such insurance shouldn't have been too expensive. Did they price it out?

Doesn't this trailer see road time? I wouldn't say that's an extremely low risk

I'm sure the margins are similar on food and coffee.
BTW, I have a great food truck idea that reduces overhead substantially and delivers a product Nashville doesn't already have. I'm just too damn lazy to start it.

Maybe so, but that's not the point. You were making an argument that they should have enough profit within 6 weeks to completely double the scale of their existing company. Anyone with an ounce of business know-how understands how asinine that is.

I see this shite every day. It's not going to happen to us

Let's not focus on that. They are the best coffee shop in the nation so we should all donate and get them to their fundraising goal of $100,000.

Right. If they are insuring the trailer, in what scenario were they envisioning the trailer might be damaged to the point of needing to collect insurance to replace/repair it, with the contents inside remaining completely unscathed?

Their goal is only 100K ... LOL
How does anyone think that makes any sense at all, sounds like they way overspent getting it started (probably paid themselves a "salary", I am guessing) because no way the startup cost is anymore than 10-15k for a trailer.

You mean an ounce of business sense as in not insuring the one asset that makes my company money?
To not rub into people's faces that I spent a considerable amount of my own money on travel and then ask them to rebuild my dream for free?
