Only if he's threatened to kill himself. Some jails give you jumpsuits, but allow you to change to those for court dates. Some jails you wear jeans and belts all day, if you're in a work camp, which obviously he is not.

Anything involving a juvenile in the preliminary stages will absolutely be a closed hearing. When and if it goes to trial, everyone outside of the lawyers, staff, the child protection professional(s) and investigators will be removed from the courtroom if a juvenile is testifying to avoid coaching or cues from others. Other than the accused. And the judge will or should be watching like a hawk to avoid subtle clues from the accused. That’s why I think the prosecution, not the defense, will request a change of venue. Sheriffs in this State have unreal power.
