Lafayette is the safest city in Louisiana by a wide margin.
Anecdotally, of the three large South Louisiana cities that I spend the bulk of my time in (Lafayette, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge), Lafayette is the only one I haven’t been shot at in.

Lafayette is a culture in search of a city,
Baton Rouge is a city in search of a culture.
Baton Rouge is a city in search of a culture.

If you’re a real OT baller, then BR for sure. If you’re middle class then Lafayette for sure. BR sucks to raise a family unless you have the money to blow on private school and a safe gated neighborhood.

Less violent crime
Better food
Friendlier people
Closer to good hunting and fishing
Better traffic (still bad though)
Festivals ( I don't go to them)
However, my original response was not about this but your absolute statement about people that like Lafayette more.

Living in Lafayette v. Baton Rouge
You call that living?

Why limit it to just these two towns?
Single or even dating with a partner willing to relocate....
These two towns would not be my first choice.
Forced to choose.
In college - BR
Just after college - BR
A few years after college - Lafayette
Starting/having a family - Lafayette
Many years after college and not interested in having kids - doesn't matter.
Retirement- somewhere else

Crime has never affected me in either city, whatsoever. And I've been in Baton Rouge for like 15 years.
So you’re using “NOLA apologist” logic?. I’ve never been personally effected by crime, therefore crime isn’t bad.
Sounds solid. Now do cancer.

Nope. Plenty of crime. It just doesn’t change my quality of life one fricking bit. Hypothetical crime risk doesn’t bother me, sorry

I’ve already addressed crime.
The food isn’t better in lafayette, because your meemaw’s house doesn’t count. There isn’t a single restaurant that has good Cajun food. And the other restaurant selection is better in BR.
Lafayette is cliquish as hell towards outsiders, which this guy would be.
Can’t speak to hunting and fishing.
Lafayette’s traffic is just as bad. It’s just different. The choke points over the river in lafayette are awful. Too many dead end neighborhoods.
Lafayette has one good festival. I can drive in.

My original post remains accurate.

Your original post made a bunch of assertions without support and without merit. But your reply speaks volumes about whether you believe you could actually back up your claims

Its like Shreveport with a larger metro area.
I still have a daughter in the Shreveport area, doing everything I can to get her back up here. Literally one of the worst places for a family.
