The Kansas part the of KC metro area is really nice except for Kansas City, KS. KC and Topeka are kinda ghetto shitholes.

Topeka is seriously one of the most depressing “urban” (or whatever the hell you want to call whatever it is) places I’ve ever seen. It’s so dang bad.

Does Dodge City still look like the old western cowboy town? (Like Tombstone)

Not even remotely. Dodge City was fairly OK a few decades ago. It's pretty terrible now. Meat packing plants mostly employing illegals has wrecked the place. It's become a high crime city with minimal income. A shame.

Ad Astra per Aspera!.

Kansas gets a bad knock, especially from knuckleheads who know nothing outside of their limited existence.

But I also choose not to live there again, though I probably should for family reasons. Nice but boring isn't adequate anymore.

I've lived in Kansas since 2000. Kansas is my adopted home state, now. I really like living where I live in the north central/northeast portion of the state - Wamegeaux. It's about 15 minutes to K-State's campus, and 90 minutes to Lawrence (where I went to grad school after graduating from LSU in '99). I worked in Topeka for a little over a year and traveled the state during that time. I've lived as far west as Garden City and Liberal, and as far east as Prairie Village. I like the Johnson County area and there is a lot to do. Garden, Liberal, and Dodge - the triangle of meat packing - is depressing. I made a lot of good friends out there whom I still keep up with, but I would never choose to live anywhere west of Manhattan. I share most everyone's thoughts on Topeka, though they are trying to build morale. And Topeka has some spots to hit up - the Brown v. Board Historic site, Lonnie Q's BBQ. Off the top of my head, I think the Lindsborg and Abilene suggestions are great - they just finished remodeling the Eisenhower Museum. The US Cavalry Museum is supposed to be finishing up their remodeling soon, so interested in checking that out (Ft. Riley, between Manhattan and Junction City). Oz Museum in Wamego (and also the Oz Winery). Like most everyone else commenting, the Johnson County/KC metro area has a lot of stuff to do. They have BBQ buses that will take you to BBQ hot spots in town...or just do your own, which is what I do when I'm in town - Joe's KC (formerly OK Joe's) has 3 locations, but hit up the old gas station joint in KCK. Gates, Q39, Slaps...Arthur Bryant's has a location at the Legends outside of KC on the Kansas side. Then there's the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, which is on the Missouri side - fantastic art museum. Trying to think of other things off the top of my head. Russell-Stover Chocolate factory at the Abilene exit. I'll try to think of other things, a little later.

Well, Wichita was nice enough to take the Baby Cakes off of New Orleans' hands.

Oh man, this has been an unmitigated disaster based on what I’ve heard and read. New name is the Wind Surge and the cost of the stadium jumped up from $70 Million to closer to $120 Million.

You know I rode with the name at first trying to have city pride and everything but the longer this goes the more I hate it. If they wanted to ride the wind thing why not wind sox?

As far as the stadium goes the deal was definitely shady but I respect Longwell for trying to progress the city. I’ve been in enough places that are just content with things being the way they always were and it’s nice seeing somewhere trying to progress. Hopefully whipple can keep that going.

Southwest Kansas is a great place to go shoot prairie dogs and to look at cattle eating in feed lots.

Windiest state I’ve been to and nearly got knocked out by a hail stone when we got caught in an open field during a May thunderstorm.

They take tornado warnings seriously up there.

This is interesting input, thank you. What would it be like to live in the most rural areas? Where they say is “out in the middle of no where”?

A place similar to the image (except a nice, brand new custom home to live in?

I know the drive from Lincoln, NE to Manhattan, KS is a whole lot of nothing (no trees, a lot of plains). Lawrence seems like a nice town. Not sure about west Kansas, but I’m sure it’s a whole lot of nothing.
