I'm happy where I'm at right now, but shoot me an email (jcorye1@gmail.com). It's always good to have contacts in this economy.

Louisiana Tech offers an MHI (Master of Health Informatics). It's one of only 4 accredited programs in the US.

My background is on the healthcare side of things. If you aren't working for the software company, the tech isn't that hard to learn. The software company writes the program, you basically just need to know how to modify it to fit your organization.

Thanks for the info. I'm taking a healthcare IT course at LSU while in grad school. We took it bc of how easy it was supposed to be, so it's not like I'm learning much.

It really isn't something that is "hard", but if you don't have the medical vocab background, it's difficult to communicate with physicians and other providers about changes to the system that they'd like to see.

The software company that I use actually hires fresh graduates of any major out of school. I've worked with people who graduated in English, Law, Engineering, etc...The only requirement is that you graduated with a high GPA, and prove that you have the ability to learn.

Huh? You think people that make 55k pay 20k in taxes?

No one pays close to that unless they have the worst accountant on the planet!

This thread is funny, especially the Pirate guy. I made 45K starting out in Los Angeles, and was never worried about it. As long as you don't pile debt on top of yourself there isn't anything to worry about

They said after "taxes", but probably meant after all deductions. After federal, state, social security, medicare, and possibly deductions for insurance, 35% of gross for $55K is probably in the ballpark for what they would net on a paycheck.

I make considerably less than that and I'm very, very comfortable.

that

and if we're talking about pre-refund, OP needs to jack up allowances to get rid of withholdings. not advising tax fraud. just buy a house.

s it really? I'm not doubting you, I'm truly curious. That seems insanely low for a four year degree. I thought it would have been closer to a 75-80k a year average.

Lol, you think every kid with an undergrad degree makes that out of college? A lot of them can't find jobs, they are going back to school.

About 31% of my gross income last year went towards taxes- federal, state, medicare, & SS. After I got my refund it ended up to be about 28%.

Which is normal. Has nothing to do with needing a "better accountant".
