LIttle white lies to comort the grieving.

My fiance died 10 years ago. I gave all his possessions to his ex-wife for his children, packed into his camper. I only kept a few things that he bought for me, that we bought together and that I bought for him.
Well they took the camper, didn't secure it or unload it and months later it was stolen so they lost all his stuff.
Thru the years i have taken a few items I have and every so often send them to his daughter (including lil gifts from me for her baby).
Recently she was really upset and missing her dad. I offered her my prize possession which is a solid gold replica pendant of his NOFD badge that he had custom made for me..
She thanked me so much for it and said i had no idea how much it meant. (but I do know how much it means as I love that necklace just as much.
I also has a few collectable (inexpensive) trinkets, collector coins, stamps, etc)that were once his/ours. to give to her, for her son. But I also added quite a few that were just mine and told them they were his.
Yes I told a white lie there. But she was so thrilled with these things as if i handed her pure cold. She is still grieving so much after a decade and i only want to bring her comfort.
So was this really so bad?
I also have a gorgeous gemstone ring that I don't want because of i dislike the person who gave it to me. Would it be ok to give it to the daughter and just tell her it was "something her daddy bought and that i want her to have it?

So now you just use the situation to unload all of your crap?

It's not about the item, its the sentiment, if she believes it and it brings her comfort, then its meaningful and worthwhile

I think everyone tells white lies, some more than others, but as long as she doesn't find out you were bullshitting her and it makes her feel better then no harm done.

Losing a parent is hard. I lost my dad when I was 19... Which was 20 years this past January. Not a day goes by I don't think about him and I miss him, but you eventually learn how to deal with it. After a decade, she shouldn't be grieving so much to the point you have to give her all of your shite just to make her feel better.

Why not just have a garage sale instead of lying to get rid of your trash.

While what you are doing seems to be done with the best of intentions, I can't say that it is the best idea. Eventually, something will slip and the truth will come out and you will have a hell of a mess on your hands. If you don't want the gemstone ring, I think it would be a better idea to sell it to get rid of it.

This is apparently after you vandalized the truck?

Also, this is on them. Evidently they didn't appreciate it enough to secure it or unload it so...

Definitely seems this is an edge of a very steep slope.

Note that the follow up gifts aren't to the ex wife who neglected it, but the daughter who likely had no say in the camper's disposition.

Often (depending on the person) essentially everything said at a funeral is a lie to comfort the grieving. We've all been to funerals where the individual was a POS on some level but we say shite like "he's in a better place" to the family. Even those who believe in Heaven don't believe that person is there.
