AA travel ball is horse crap. It's awful. Kids have no talent, all daddy ball coaching, and the teams change up each year because the moms can't get along with each other. Every single, every single kid in AA ball is the son of a parent who doesn't want to associate with "those people" in rec ball... but whose talent and drive in every way is the same as "those people" in rec ball.

As a guy who’s involved in this, I can tell you that this isn’t the case everywhere. And certainly not where we play

I’m curious… since you seem to know so much about it, what’s YOUR experience been like? Did you coach? Play? How many years? Where?

I knew things where getting out of hand when they started handing out rings like this…

… for random weekend tournaments. Thankfully we missed this by a couple of years. I still treasure the years I got to coach my son and his friends in little league. And while I miss it, you couldn’t pay me to do it again in today’s crazy little league world.

Because we have allowed baseball to be segregated into two systems.

When I was a kid rec was split into three levels.

A league for the best players

B league for the kids who pay attention and want to learn to get better but arent there yet

C league for the kids that pick weeds in the outfield.

A became the first level of travel ball

B became the AA level of travel ball

C plus the poor kids is what is rec ball today

I have little league pictures of wearing the same uniform and most kids were wearing jeans. That was the 80s and no one had baseball pants back then.

All we had for uniforms were these city-owned hand me down shirts with long colored sleeves to differentiate the teams. Hats were whatever you brought from home. We rode our StingRays to the game with our mits ran down through the handlebar.

Little league softball/baseball has brought out the worst in this generation of parents.

They don’t parent but react while sitting on their iPhones.

Also true.

The youth baseball “look” is awful, but where I am, you see the same with basketball players.

This is the story of every baseball dad in America.

“Yeah, we’re not like that.”

Whatever. Your Dr. Dre cap and drunk wife say otherwise

Tell me about the state of rec soccer. Gtfo

The truth is rec ball has gone the way of the dodo and if your kid has any interest in growing as a ballplayer, there is really only the option of travel ball.

I have a 10th grade baseball player and 8th grade softball player in the OKC area. My kids are in a 6A district at a competitive HS baseball/softball program.

If you have not played competitive ball, you aren't playing on the HS team, period. Much less college.

And "travel" ball doesn't mean hotels every weekend. If you're near a decent sized metro, 80-90% of your tournaments are within an hour of home.

It's more fun to play on the HS team than sit the bench.

Again, tell me how soccer is any different? Travel BS is just as rampant

The difference is soccer people tend to not act like d-bags

Maybe not d-bags. Bet they enjoy tea bags though. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Priorities are out of whack. I mean the whole culture. The odds are low even with all the travel ball. Banking on the scholly is a dumb way to try to get out of the ghetto. You guys are trying to get out the suburbs

Most of this jealous posters are talking out of their arse and have no skins on the wall. Their kid was cut and they blame it on "politics"

They never experienced the pride of watching their son drop the griddy from 3rd to home while trotting out a Dinger.

They can't afford to build an addition to their home for their kids rings and trophies, so they cast aspersions on those of us with many skins on the wall.

People in this thread are complaining about modern baseball but really, our era is like any other.

Vikings used to raid the coasts of Britain or the modern Baltic states every summer. They would rape and pillage not because they needed to but because they were ruthless and wanted to assert their dominance and bring home loot to the cheering adulation of their women, children and elders.

Their story is not unique. History tells us this tale time and time again, all across the globe. From the Mongols on the Eurasian Steppe to the Conquistadors entering the New World to the Comanches of the American West, our Human lineage is deeply embedded with the many who are timid and weak, and the few who are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve victory. The latter are willing to spare no expense, leave nothing on the field of battle, to achieve their goals.

Unfortunately, we still have weak people out there. People like the OP who are okay with tiktok, XBox, and waxing poetic about queer theory and white fragility. But their kids will get lapped by those how know how to approach 2 outs with RISP and do so in style. But I guess there's always trumpet practice.

This is one stereotype in all youth sports that I feel like is overblown. You do find, in all youth sports, that often times the the coach of the team has his son starting SS, or PG, or QB, etc….

it was mostly an exaggeration.
But in reality down here several "organizations" are formed because Little Johnny wasn't playing where dad wanted him, so dad started his own team.

the team my son played on for a couple years had a freaking phenomenal SS and decent Pitching. none of whom were related to the coach.

Which why I say out this way it's watered down.
There is a ton more travel teams than there are rec teams.
And no there isn't enough actual talent to fill that.

The problem is parents trying to live their failures they their kids. Since Tiger Woods hit the scene every parent out there thinks their kid is the next up and comer. Kids playing by year around ball when every doctor out there says it bad for them.

Nephew did this and I kept telling my sister to let him play another sport but she wouldn’t listen. Got a college scholarship but quit his sophomore year after Tommy John surgery and shoulder surgery.

Doctor told them he had simply worn his arm out. He was also burned out. Sister figures she had spent nearly 50,000 over the years. Could have put him through school if she had invested it.

It’s all a money making scream for travel leagues , coaches and towns building huge parks to attractions tourism.
