False. The song was inspired by him driving through Maryland.
It was actually inspired by the other cowriters driving thru Maryland… Regardless, what is also factually correct is that even though John Denver was a cowriter of Country Roads (Almost Heaven)- he had never in his life set foot in the state of West Virginia when that song was released .. that’s a true story .
And Metairians on this board will appreciate (and im just learning this tonight) that the original recording of Coutry Roads was attributed to ‘John Denver with FAT CITY’, which was his backing band .

Interstate exit numbers are essentially mile markers. If you want exit 42 and you just passed exit 20, your exit is 22 miles away. That’s also why, if you have multiple exits piled up, they use the same number but usually add a letter.

It’s about Maryland but the lyrics sounded better with West Virginia.

The top town on an interstate highway exit sign is to the left. The lower one to the right.

It's not true, at least not the percentage part. I-35 and I-70 are the easiest to see. (It might possibly be closer to true if you went by population and not land area.)

Automobile gas gauges have a triangle pointing to the side of the car with the gas tank. Very useful with a rental.
I used to rent cars a lot for work travel, and learned this a long time ago. Had a rental recently and forgot to look before I got out and felt like a such a dumbass for not checking first.

I’m sure the interstate numbers are meant to be approximates to land mass in either direction and not exact percentages.

didn't learn until about ten years ago that the little arrow on your gas gauge pointed to the side your tank hole is on.
Within the last year, I learned that this wasn’t common knowledge.

They are not at all. That makes no sense.

Strange, but true.
The word buffalo has three distinct meanings: 1) the city of Buffalo (NY being the most well-known, but there is a Buffalo TX), 2) another term for the American Bison, and 3) to harass.
So, the sentence means: "bison from the city of Buffalo, which other bison from the city of Buffalo harass, in turn harass still other bison from the city of Buffalo."

No. The two-digit ones that end in zero and five are the major interstates. Three digit ones are loops/bypasses
