Saw the lights too. They had to be drones given the way they moved. Commercial pilots can absolutely fly at night with approval and properly lit drones. And who knows, a bunch of non-commercial pilots may have gotten together to salute Brandon

Edit: damn autocorrect

Probably just weather balloons. Wasn’t that always the excuse for UFOs in the 80s and early 90s?

I am a commercial pilot and no you can’t. And you also can’t fly above 400 feet and those lights are very well above 400 feet, not that it matters because you can’t get an instrument rating for a drone to fly at night. The lights are for visibility during civil twilight

I’ve worked with commercial pilots for years and those who flew inspections on the federal side before such a rating existed. You absolutely can fly at night and they can fly beyond 400’. Just a matter of approvals. I’m not commercial by choice. Too much trouble to deal with.

Definitely aliens. I’d run. If they are invading Baton Rouge, they aren’t too bright.

Yea I’m actually wrong, I just looked it up and they updated the rules in May and I wasn’t aware of that because I have no reason to fly at night lol. I was confusing instrument flight with night flight. Either way, the guys you worked with weren’t flying under Part 107 if they were conducting federal inspections, and I can’t imagine that they would have 15+ drones flying closely together at night at Millerville and Old Hammond. I’ll stand by that, they could very well be flying outside of Part 107 either recreationally or governmentally but I have no clue why, or why they’d be granted a waiver to do so over a major city

Chinese lanterns from a Friday night Fall wedding. Some bitch needed all the attention from her friends and family.

Ask yourself what event hall that host weddings nearby is in that direction. I can think of several.

It’s all good. Whatever went on over that area gives no logical indication of a commercial sorte. I’ve seen recreational units fly just over traffic on the south end of O’Neil so it wouldn’t surprise me if it were some group out doing something stupid.

Truth is any Beavis that can pass the 107 can get their commercial license. Not just any commercially licensed Beavis will get approval for restricted airspace, much less restricted and at night. The folks I’ve been with were required to get their 107 as soon as it was made available.

Granted, I need new contacts but it doesn't look like a star/planet.

Saw it last night as well and over the evening, into very early morning, it moved from the SW sky, to the SE and then pretty much south.

Not saying I'm seeing it move but went outside 3 times over several hours and it was different positions.

You absolutely can fly your UAV at night with an authorization and proper lighting. It's even easier now with LAANC. And the airspace around that location is class G to 700 AGL.
