And, both the wife and I never felt like Carolinians.
I can relate, because I for sure don't feel Texan. However, it's just 5 hours back home for me so I can get the fix pretty easy and Hackberry is only a few hours and some change....

I was just thinking earlier how it'll never feel like home
I always tell people I just moved here but it's been 3 years now

I moved to Houston then back and couldn't be happier
Even in Houston I found myself only hanging out with people from Louisiana

I don't do it often. It's just comforting knowing that I can do it without flying and if I leave early, be there before lunch.

kind of funny how the roles have reversed, when I was a kid Shreveport was considered a nice, pretty city and Bossier was considered to be sleazy, skeevy, trashy, and skanky

I'm just glad I don't have to live in either

It seems your are asking questions but are quick to disagree with the advice you are seeking. It sounds like you have your mind made up to come back to BR.

If you dont REALLY like to fish, then there really is no reason to move back to the shithole that is Louisiana. If it werent for my family ties, I'd have moved away by now.

Where on I-10? I can only remember 2 instances in the last few months where there was actual gridlock.

Born and raised in West Monroe. Wife is South Louisiana. Growing up, I never thought I'd miss West Mecca. But then there I'd be, in downtown Charlotte (in all the froo froo shite it offers), thinking about Darbonne.
I think one foot in two places describes it perfectly.

Not true, it's simply I know the benefits and cons of living here.
Pro's - Not necessarily done having kids and for that and any other health concerns, this is one of the top medical centers in the country, higher earning potential not to buy kids more crap, but provide better opportunities than I had. Say if they are smart enough and want to go to college somewhere like Harvard or MIT or some shite, it would be a better shot of paying for that working here. Also, there are 4 pro sport teams, none of which I really care about though. If Lebron comes into town, or an ace pitcher, I live closer to the arenas here than I would to NO to see the Pelicans play. So opportunities like that for a little boy are possible, even on weeknights. Good museums, zoo, aquarium, and plenty of things to do.
Cons - Away from family. I come from a small one, but wife has a huge one. Good benefits to both sizes, especially babysitting, neighbors are shut off or not nearly as friendly and personable, to live where I want with some trees, I drive over 80 miles a day which means commute takes away more valuable time, while public schools are better, the larger size makes it easier to get lost in the shuffle, and to find a house with a decent fricking backyard, it's either old as shite in run down neighborhoods, or way overpriced.

I find with moving somewhere, if you don't really commit to a place and go all in, you will eventually start to miss wherever you moved from. Its necessary to make any move.
