I'm moving back after 21 years. Cajuns might move away, but Louisiana never leaves them. This one is coming home.

traffic is bad for such a small town, I think it has to do with paving old cow trails or something, used to joke about the only two lights in town that were in sync were the one at University/Pinhook and the one at Amb. Caffery and Johnston, cool little town though, I'd move back in a heartbeat

I swear people from br are taught not to merge
The second day I lived in Houston, I had to take the tollway somewhere, I had not yet gotten a toll tag, and the amount of swerving in and out of the toll tag lanes to and from the cash lanes by the in-line toll plazas gave me a panic attack. I went where I had to go, and next stop that day was to buy a toll tag, so I would never have to worry about sitting in that cash line again.

Come on man! Don't be stupid. Drive through Baton Rouge for a week straight during 5 o'clock traffic and you will want to stay in Houston.
BR traffic is horrible, however, the Katy Freeway in rush hour is a torture chamber, and 290 in rush hour can cause suicidal thoughts.

You left out the 610 Loop at the Galleria. My corporate office is there and it's like a kick in the nutz going to that God awful place.

Also based on how you are answering everyone's post, you have already made up your mind, you don't seem to want to defend living in Houston very much.

still going to be a lot cheaper in LA, TX is a ripoff in that dept.,
You pay out the arse but you get a lot back with the public schools being so good. If you have kids, it's a good place to be.
In the state that BR is in now, I don't think I could move back. I see little glimmers of hope, like the rail that might be put in and the water campus. If they bulldoze and gentrify the Highland area north of LSU, Gardere, and Tigerland, it might actually be a nice city to live in.

I hate toll ways but we have such nice roads
It's like for every positive attribute Houston has it also has a drawback
It's just the weirdest place to live. Sometimes I want to move back to shitport

Wife and I moved back south after 8 years being in the Carolinas.
It's difficult to explain, but some other poster nailed it. You never really leave this place. And, both the wife and I never felt like Carolinians.

The thing that makes BR traffic so maddening is it is completely hopeless. With only 1 or 2 roads to get to where you're going, if one is out, you're completely f&%ked. There are few if any alternatives and surface streets are damn near useless. The icing on the cake is that it's not just rush hour. I can't remember the last time I-10 West was NOT gridlocked on a Sunday afternoon. Morning rush? gridlock. Lunch rush? gridlock. school traffic? gridlock. Evening Rush? Gridlock. LSU game? gridlock. Sunday just because? gridlock. BRPD/LA State Police/EBRSO checkpoint? gridlock. Midnight just because? gridlock.
If one option is closed to you, you're basically completely f&%ked and just have to come to terms with it. My entire living situation in BR is based upon strategically living to avoid traffic.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Houston. I had a lot of personal and professional success there, met some great friends there (whom I go visit a couple of times a year), etc. Houston gets a bad rap sometimes.
But the entire time I was there, I felt like I had one foot in LA and one foot in TX. It just never truly felt like home to me.
