I've been taking 40 mg of Celexa every morning for at least 10 years.I was waking up every night after a few hours and was up all night.

Doctor prescribed that and I sleep fine now.I wasn't depressed but my Brain chemicals were out of balance from too much partying in the 80's.

You have to weigh the pros and cons. I suffered from panic disorder for a few years. I have no idea what caused me to start having panic attacks but they got so severe that it was affecting my ability to function in life normally. I eventually agreed to be put on Paxil and Xanax. I took Paxil daily and had no more issues with panic attacks. I weened my self off (against my doctors advice) after about a year and have had no any withdrawal issues or panic attacks after I quit.

The shrink isn't just for loons! If you find one you like they really help with the depression, stress, and anxiety too. For me, zoloft 50 mg and a good shrink have helped me not be a down and out turd. It helps to learn healthy coping mechanisms too.

That and the sweat. Holy shite, the sweat from being freaked out, and then you freak out because of the sweat.

It is debilitating. Can't leave the house debilitating. At my worst I had to leave a fricking driving range. I can think of nothing more soothing than hitting golf balls. I knew I had a real problem when I had to walk off of a range.

Wellbutrin and occasional benzo.

OP if this med change does not work either. Go see a psych and not a GP. You need counseling. If only short term.

This is exactly what I experienced. Its unfortunate it is so misunderstood. I had people telling me I just need to relax and get more exercise(although exercise did help some), as if i was just a little too stressed out. I would be as calm as I could be and all of a sudden my heart would start racing and I would feel like I'm going to pass out.

-been on 40mg Paxil for 15 years.
Has helped with my OCD.

Reaching orgasm is difficult.
Paxil will lower testosterone levels.
Paxil will increase weight.
Paxil will be difficult to quit.
Paxil withdrawal will cause brain zaps.
Paxil withdrawal can often cause crying spells.

Have to weigh pros/cons.

Take 20mg lexapro for the last year and a half. literally a life saver. I was so bad I was afraid to leave the house to go the gym and stuff. I slept half the day and was extremely depressed and always irritable.

First month kicked my arse. Climaxing takes an act of god lol but that's good becuase it cuts down on my fapping lol not even worth it lol.

I have a xanax prescription as well for extreme cases but don't care for it as i can't take it and drink and I like to drink.I might take one a month

The good news is that there are a few newer meds out there now like Vortioxetine and Viibryd that have a smaller side effect profile compared to the standard spectrum SSRIs especially near placebo rate sexual side effects. They also tend to have the added advantage of acting faster and on more receptors.

I was put on Paxil as well. It completely stopped my panic attacks. I did experience some weight gain but I had no withdrawal except an occasional brain zap for about week. I was only on it for a year though.

If you are having trouble deciding on the right medication, there is a DNA test you can do (cheek swab) that will tell you which meds are best for you, and which ones you should avoid becasue you need a higher dose for it to be effective (and thus worse side effects). I highly recommend it. Just ask your doctor about it. Also, don't be afraid to be your own advocate. Ask about side effects, treatment options, pros and cons of each medicine and their indications. Lastly, do CBT. I can't stress that part enough.

Wife used to be on Lexapro and it got her sick too. She's on Celexa now and it's much better for her.

or she tried one med that didn't work for her and allowed herself to stay on it too long despite the fact it wasn't working. Doesn't say much for someone who "works in the medical field".

Maybe she realized that she needed to deal with the problems herself instead of relying on a magic pill to do the job. Everybody has their own opinon bud, and she will tell you to this day that she "thought" it worked. But all it did was numb her from the real issues. Just my .02. If its how you deal with yours, go ahead more power to you. Just saying that there is other ways than relying on meds to get you thru the day. I rely on alcohol/blow/and hookers from houma

Call it what you want but I believe depression is BS aswell. Just my .02 This is coming from a guy whos mother was diagnosed with severe depression.
