When the cops find his drugs in the car he’ll honestly be able to he’s just borrowing your car.

Perhaps type up a mini agreement for you to both sign and have notarized. Just something for him to show in the event he gets pulled over or has an accident.

That would happen with or without the vehicle owner having that coverage.

My wife's family is going through that right now. Her uncle was killed by a lady who ran a red light but she has no assets and no means of paying.

The owner of the vehicle had insurance but specifically excluded the driver from coverage.

As a result my dad’s insurance had to cover the cost and of course his insurance will go up.

Wtf? Your dads insurance shouldn't go up if it wasn't his fault. Usually the insurance company will cover it then go after the owner of the other car for reimbursement

We may see this guy on Live PD.

So, this is how it starts. OP, make sure you don't leave any needles or stolen firearms in the car. The cops won't believe your buddy when he says they aren't his.

And even if there is a judgement against the guy, it is unlikely they'll see much money if any.

When I did this for an aunt, I added her to my insurance as a designated driver. Insurance went up a few bucks month but it was worth it for peace of mind.

You are right. I’m making an assumption that his premium will go up.

the owner apparently has no liability because he specifically named the driver on his insurance to be excluded from coverage.

It’s a fricked up law.

I need to make sure that he doesn't leave any needles in the car when I get it back from him

You're car is definitely going to make an appearance on Live PD

This is similar to the rent a rock business plan used in some areas.

I really don't care

It isn't worth much now. I'm only keeping it as a project type car for when I get back home.

Your friend can add your car to his insurance policy. This is the best way to go, for you.

In that case, I wouldn't worry about it. You can't be held liable for your friend driving. So really all you have to worry about is your vehicle getting damaged. If it's not worth much, I wouldn't sweat it.

So no action is required on my part for this to happen?

Best to check this out with your own insurance company.

I dropped the insurance a couple months ago since it is garaged and is not being used

Obviously will have to add coverage if someone will be using it
