I don't see what their education level has to do with anything. Their opinions are guided by one side of a story. That's what pisses me off especially about the MN case. We have video of the aftermath of an event and people are treating that video as if it were filmed from beginning to end.

This.

Some liberal writer at Time was up against a deadline and came up with this idea. It just seems too contrived and scripted.

The police need to be more transparent and better at self policing themselves for following the rules.
In turn we need to give police officers benefit of the doubt in ambiguous situations.

There is a difference between a hard decision and a shitty cop. If you only get fricked if you deserve it, only shitty cops get fricked

Those downvotes go to show you what kind of trashy ilk this site attracts. Bunch of closet racist assholes who make their little cutesy, subtle, racist remarks behind the safety of their keyboard.

It's kind of like every white supremacist you see... they think they are a part of the educated, white, western world- although genetically and intellectually they exhibit none of the tendencies they howl to protect.

How this should've went:

Dear Langston,

After seeing the things happening around us and the mob reactions without acknowledging the facts, I hope and pray that I've taught you well enough to keep your head up, your nose clean, and to show respect when someone in a position of authority addresses you even when you think you're right and they're wrong. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that there aren't a-hole cops out there or that sometimes you're not going to have to deal with being stereotyped. But those guys put their lives on the line to serve and protect our communities, no matter how ignorant some of our fellow brothers and sisters can be. And as a result, you may feel like they're being over aggressive when the reality is that the thugs on the street have created that mindset and made it harder for some of us to step up and represent. Follow their instructions and if you feel like they were in the wrong, we can deal with that later. Don't be a Michael Brown or Alton Sterling. Be a Colin Powell, Don Cheadle, or Tim Duncan. When you stop blaming everyone else for your shortcomings and step up to the plate, you'll be surprised what doors will open up for you.

Love,

Dad

Yes, a family educated in African American studies. In this case their education makes them biased and blinds them to perspective.

I down voted and I'd hardly say I'm in the closet about how I feel about things.

My down vote is because it's dumb. It paints an inaccurate picture. It's stupid to continue to push that there is such a huge issue when there isn't.

What a load of crap. If cops really can kill black people with impunity, then why are an black people left in the U.S.? Humans have hunted many species into extinction. Why not black people if it really is open season on them?

I know if I were to write a letter to my son it would be more about baring a hard worker, doing well in school, getting a scholarship etc or maybe joining the military if not.
I would also tell him to not hang around trash and to not blame others for his problems

Beautifully written. Wish I could up vote more than once.

I swear to God I've had my dad tell me almost exactly what you wrote when I was a kid.

That's the reason I seek his advice to this day.
