Certainly not but Baton Rouge is not Los Angeles, Chicago, or some huge city where it's just too damn crowded. There are so many working families and college grads who leave Baton Rouge because of the traffic and schools, period. Eventually this will catch up to the Capital City.

Sounds like someone is trying to create a bandwagon effect but the fact is that luring tenants to a new mall is hard work that's best done in secret until the ink is dry on the contract.

OPPSS and EBRPSS were under deseg orders for decades. Is it any wonder that in Orleans Parish prior to Katrina they held the distinction of being the only Parish or County School System in the entire Nation that had more kids enrolled in private schools than public ones?

How many private schools are in EBR?

Parkview Baptist
Runnels
Episcopal
Catholic
St. Joseph's
Redemptorist (up until very recently)
Christian Life/St. Michael's/Whatever its name is now

That's a TON in just the city when the five parish metro BR area has only a half million residents.

Look I agree that suburban sprawl was ubiquitous nationwide. But you can't simply dismiss the eye-opening issues that lead to the explosive growth in Ascension and Livingston and their school systems, along with the proliferation and growth of private schools entirely.

The governance and school systems propped up by it is atrocious.

But we're veering off topic here. Sorry for being a part of it.

Yeah and other parts have grown. Yall are acting like absolutely nothing positive is happening in BR and the whole city is going to shite.

There are plenty of things happening. But they are completely dwarfed by other, more pressing concerns.

Dude, white flight happens everywhere. This is not unique to Baton Rouge. And it isn't (nor will it ever be) like there are thousands & thousands of unoccupied homes in the city.

No, it won't. You think people leave BTR because of the traffic, yet elect to move to a suburb where it will take them in excess of an hour to get to work?

What? I'm not dismissing anything, other than this absurd notion that BTR will somehow be vacated by the constant flux of people to surrounding areas. Hell, I was a poor kid attending a private school in BTR growing-up. I'm all too familiar with the shortcomings of our city. But suggesting that white flight and suburban sprawl are unique to our area is oblivious.

Yall really overstate the traffic woes

I drive from denham to Geismar every day and the traffic on I-12 is really not that bad. It's heavy but it's moving.

yeah cause going east on I12 from LSU to Livingston parish is definitely the best way to completely avoid traffic.

Unless there is some magical underground tunnel that starts at the stadium and runs directly into Juban Crossing, i don't see how this helps the LSU Football traffic. Once you are on campus, you are a part of the traffic. Building hotels 20 miles away isn't going to do much.

BR city traffic is much worse than interstate traffic. Essen Lane even before the shitshow it is now was the worst part of my drive.

Exactly

The difference in living in LP and living in BR can mean about 8 miles of interstate give or take

8 miles of interstate in rush hour equals about 10-15 minutes most days

Hardly life altering

I'm basing this off of what I'm told by the folks in my office who live in Denham (work in downtown). Regardless, you don't leave a city because of traffic to go live somewhere where you will encounter more traffic.

You obviously don't cross the bridge everyday.

But you can get around Essen via sidestreets. There is no other way to enter BR than the bridge.
