Yeah,my wife actually had to claim disability during her maternity leave. She quit before returning since I received a new job out of state and it just worked out. Insurance actually sent too much money. Wife sent it back. No joke the insurance called back and said they'd never seen anyone do that and let here keep it. It was my much money, but still kind of crazy.

It is not unique to this scenario. I know multiple women who quit after giving birth. I will say at least one of them decided this after giving birth. She couldn't leave her (disabled) child at daycare.

Chicks need 6 weeks. That is standard.
Anyone who takes more than that has serious phyical issues, but likely she just hates work and life in general.

Exactly.

Maternity leave is a good thing - but employers are rapidly moving to federal leave minimums because of the abuse in the system.
A few bad apples ruin it for everyone.
I would set up 2 months paid - but you get the two months pay over the next six months - you can use sick / vacation time the two months you are out.

We've got a guy in my office that is away on military leave (so obviously we are holding his job for him). He'll be gone a grand total of 14 months. I just KNOW that he'll come back for a week or 2 and decide he wants to pursue something else and put in his notice.
Totally different scenario IMHO.

It's called a BENEFIT.
Do you turn down the 401l company match?

And yes, war on women
The goal of most women is to not work.
It's also to get the kids out of the house so they don't have to put up with them.
So basically the goal of most women is to do nothing in life.
And then they get upset because they aren't respected the same way men are in the workplace.

It really sucks when part time employees like teachers get maternity leave on the taxpayers.

We had to re-write our policy because we had a couple of women do the same thing. Now in order to get the paid maternity leave the employee must agree to remain with the company for a year. If they quit before the year then they owe the company back a prorated amount of their paid leave.

Wrong. Women are genetically hard wired to pick berries and skin animals

What a shitty policy, although paying at all is more than many companies.

Is it wrong to have the same goals if you're a man? I work so one day I don't have to anymore.

Do you make sure to burn all your sick days before the year is up?

There are TONS employees who "abuse" policies to their advantage. Like quitting the day after getting their annual PTO time so it is paid out upon termination. Or quitting the day after company bonuses are awarded. Or quitting shortly after getting vested for something. If a benefit is available, an employee is entitled to use it.
This. So while I am sure some women already know they plan to quit, not all do.
The desire to stay home didn't happen until the baby was in my arms. It was truly agonizing deciding what to do. Leaving your baby at six weeks or 12 weeks is hard because they are still newborns but they are starting to smile back at you and interact and you realize this isn't just a baby but your child. And *that* is when women end up making a life/career altering decision at a very emotional (and still hormonal) time.

Not to mention, a lot of these women probably do intend to come back to work but then reality sets in when they are getting no sleep and doing nothing but trying to keep this newborn baby alive. Can't blame them for deciding to not come back or to take an extended break before re-entering the work force.

She is a good performer. She got the highest evaluation and she does great work.
But I still think it’s shady to go around telling everyone that.
This place isn’t that serious to retaliate against anyone. Nor is the job that serious.

Good luck collecting that
