Well considering I wasn't talking about stay-at-home dads, I don't know why this matters.

You made sure to emphasize "equal" a whole lot. Therefore your argument makes no sense. They are equal. What's the difference if a man stays home or the woman does?

Now, in my mind, they aren't equal. So the "man" in your scenario needs to get off his A and go to work.

Even without kids I think I'd be fine chilling at home, helping the wife with her businesses, and do some day trading or something similar. And drinking bourbon.

Sitting at home, not doing shite but playing Xbox and drinking bourbon? That probably would get old after a few months.

This morning I hung my wife's new painting of the BLM Last Supper. I added some white Christmas lights for a dash of ambiance. Next, I'll rearrange the rock garden to say "Best Mom Ever" before the kiddos get off the bus at 2:30. :whew:

So there are people who stay home because the income is not needed and are not on welfare?

Why do you care?

You're a nosy lil bitch.

If you have a small kid at home then i'm not talking about you. I think it's important to the development of a child that one parent stay home during a child's early, formative years.

I stayed at home as Mr Mom for about 8 years. The company I worked for had just been sold and they paid a bunch of us to go home. My wife was making WAY more than I was owning her own business. Plus, a daughter struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder and it was an easy decision to stay home. Without one of us at home, there is no way my daughter would have ever graduated high school. No way.

Now, my youngest is leaving for college soon. I'm on year one of a new career. I had time for plenty of introspection and consultation in regards to a career this time around. I know what I want to do and where I want to go this time. I spent too much time chasing money out of college instead of trying to find what I really wanted/needed to be doing.

In regards to what you actually do..... there's plenty to do around a house with a wife and a couple of kids. Grocery store, clean, shuttle kids around, pay bills, yard work, house repairs, etc, etc, etc, etc. It was by no means working in a coal mine, but there's plenty to do. I did go to the gym a lot and got to take a nap every day.

My ex took a couple years off to figure out what he wanted to do. He ended up severely depressed & stayed drunk or in bed all the time. It destroyed our marriage. People need purpose & routine.

People need purpose

That's the whole point I'm making. When someone in a marriage doesn't have purpose it hurts both parties. The one who isn't contributing begins to feel less respected. The one who does the majority of the heavy lifting will start to resent their spouse.

There was a time when women didn't work. They would take care of the kids for 16-18 years and then sit around all day when the kids had moved on. Husbands treated their wives like shite because they didn't respect them as equal contributors to the marriage. And the truth is that they weren't.

So a couple has kids, the wife makes substantially more than the man and can afford for the man to take a break from work for the formative years of their child. On what planet does it make sense for the family to have the man keep working and the higher income earner stay home? Just because he’s the man and you have an archaic view of spousal roles?

Now this is a different discussion after the kid is in school, but still.

You're free to get as creative as you'd like. Your list of outliers doesn't change the basics of tangible contributions to a marriage.

We may move to the country soon as we want the kids to grow up in that setting. My wife would be the sole income if we did this as there aren’t any jobs there in my field. I gotta say it feels weird to even think about the roles being reversed. I plan on starting a business that allows me to work from home for the most part. The lure of living a slower paced life on a large acreage is starting to grow on me...

The effemination of men has been going on for the last two decades.

Things that were once frowned upon are now okay and even sometimes encouraged.
